I pulled the dipstick on my tranny this morning and found that there was no fluid on the stick. Surprised the heck out of me. Stuck it back in just to be sure and it came out showing up to the top mark. Only thing I can surmise is that as the fluid cooled from yesterday it sucked the fluid out of the dipstick tube and when I pulled, it released the vacuum on the tube, this allowed the fluid to jump back up into the tube to the proper level. Anyone ever have this occur to them?

Happened to me too.
Same scenario, same results.
Your explanation seems feasible to me.

I had exactly that experience with my CK20HST. I learned to only check the HST fluid level after starting the engine.
