Flow Restrictor for 3PL Tilt Cylinder

Hi,

I have a 3032E with JD rear remote kit(with QD) that is used to control a hydraulic tilt cylinder on 3PL. It all works well but the control is very hard to fine tune levels. It moves far too quickly for accurate setting of tilt.

From research it appears that a flow restrictor (adjustable) is the solution, is that right?

Also where does the flow restrictor(s) go in the hydraulic circuit bearing in mind that I have two sets of outlets and only want the set used for tilt cylinder to be limited.

You can put a restrictor in the line going to the cyl. Try different orifice sizes to set the flow rate.

You could put a needle valve in the circuit and adjust to suit your situation.

I suspect Brian asks about the cylinder diameter to help size the orifice for choking the lines. He has been an advocate of this method for quite some time and you are both correct imo.

Instead of guessing what a person needs, it usually works best to get as much info as possible.

The orifice or restriction must also be placed in the line that prevents the cylinder from "running away" or free falling. I.e. on top link the flow restriction would have to be installed on the rod end of the cylinder.

Would that still apply if one wanted to use the top link cylinder to dump a carry all?

Would the best thing in that case be to use a needle valve to have the flow when needed and be able to slow it down too?

Yes, some needle valves have markings so you can return to a particular setting.

1/4 in valve provide flow control and shut-off in one flow direction while providing free flow in the opposite direction. Color bands for fast return to previous setting. Set screw to lock valve to any setting.

1/4 NPT 5 GPM PRINCE WFC-400 IN-LINE FLOW CONTROL

I think will go with the needle valve option, that will give the best way to fine tune. One question regarding the valve recommended by J_J, you mention flow control in only one direction. I assume that that would not work with the tilt option as i want the restriction to apply to both "sides" of the tilt equally?
