I need a decent floor jack and stands, mainly for changing/rotating tires and such, largest vehicle is diesel F250. What's a decent one?

I bought a set of stands at Sears that were rated for 5K pounds. They are a pretty simple piece of equipment and I think any of them would be fine up to their ratings. I also bought a pump jack at my local NAPA auto parts store that is pretty decent..just heavy. Also picked up a aluminum pump jack at harbor freight ..not sure of its capacity but it picks up a F150 with no problem..and it's light.

I bought a "racing Jack" at Harbor Freight. Really like it: twist handle like the commercial ones. Very low.

I have some old Walker 5000 lb stands. I supported 1 axle of my backhoe with one a while back. Been using them for everything since 1983 with no failure.

I bought heavy duty (6 ton) jack stands years ago from Northern Hydraulics, they have held up just fine...

I use this one from HF- Daytona™ Low Profile Car Jack
from the DIL G37x to my F-2fiddy 20" lift is awesome.

Jack stands are 6 ton rated from NAPA.....because of the Kioti and F-2fiddy.

the autozone 3ton stands made me feel uneasy so I gifted them to BIL.....

The 6 ton stands are beefy, heavy and have no issues using them to hold up cutter for blade sharpening, under the truck or jacking up the kioti....

Note that jack stands and ramps (that are usually used in pairs) are (usually) rated for the pair. Scrutinize the specs!

Cautionary Tale: I have used the same pair of steel ramps for oil changes on my diesel 2500 many times. Last month the rear wheels spun in loose gravel. I took about a 3' running start, mounted the ramps, and braked when I felt the wheels crest the "knuckle". Braking transfers weight to the front axle; the force was great enough to collapse both ramps. In investigating replacement ramps I found many instances where the advertising copy was not explicit and could easily mislead someone to believe the appliance was twice as strong.

I wouldn't lay under anything that said H.F. or costco with a 9,000 lb. truck over me . I have a set of 12 ton ratchetting, 22 ton pin , 10 ton pin and a set of high rise 12 ton stands . All were bought after my diesel f350 broke the ears of 2 3and 5 ton ratchetting style stands . Amazon usually has good deals on sunex and otc. The 12 ton pin was like 80$ free dilevery . I feel very secure laying under the truck . Cheap life insurance.:drink:

I have an old set of Sears Jack stands that are rated at 6 tons per pair. My old 3 ton floor jack is marginal in lifting the front end of my F250 gas truck - it will do it, but barely. I just rotated my tires a few days ago, and I did the front one side at a time.
I second the opinion of avoiding the HF cheap stands... They had a recall not long ago on some jack stands. I will say their terms for replacing or refunding were very liberal.

Harder to find, but if you're supporting an F250 you may want to look for some taller jacks rather than the typical automotive stands. I use 4" of oak under mine for the extra height (and to keep them from gouging the pavement).
