I have a nail in my front tire. Will putting a plug in it work or is that a futile effort? How about that slime like, green stuff you pour into the valve stem? Anybody with experience out there? It may have gotten off the bead, I can see more edge than I used to. It's in the middle of the woods currently so I'm looking for options before I pull the wheel off. Thanks!

I have put plugs in my skidsteer tires and have had no problems. Some of my equipment does have slime in the tires and it does seem to work well on small punctures. On an existing hole I would insert a plug before the slime. As far as the bead goes, if it does seat with just air pressure try using dish soap as a bead sealant. Also a logging chain with a binder wrapped around the outside of the tire can also help getting the bead sealed

imo, the best stuff ou there for sealing non-highway tires is UltraSeal extreme heavy duty grade, a.k.a. "bullet-proof" grade {HERE}. It has quite a good track record and is used by our military in Humvees. Supposedly will seal a half inch puncture. So far in my Power Trac have only had nail punctures, and it works 100%.

You can get it from the UltraSeal in L.A., but I found that with shipping, etc., it was more economical to get it from Gemplers {HERE}. On the Gemplers page, click the hyperlink "Application Chart" and you can find out exactly how much of the UltraSeal you will need for each tire.

For sealing the bead, the more volume of air and the faster you can deliver it, the easier it will be. A big fast puff will expand the carcass rapidly, forcing the bead onto the rim. The chain trick can really help, too.
