Hello All

First post here after doing a bunch of reading about flail mowers. I have a Kubota B2601 Which is 26 hp and 19 at the PTO. i live in Colorado Springs so at the higher altitude I bet I loose a few more. I have a 60" land pride 3 pt finish mower that just was to much for the tractor I thought as it made the tractor work pretty good in the grass we have here. It was around 6 to 7 inches tall be being so dry here the dust was terrible and pack tons of dirt under the deck after one use. So I want to get a flail. 3 grand is the budget. With the wood max being on back order now I'm thinking of the TX 52 from Tractor tools or a Peruzzo Fox S Side Shift Series from Iowa Equipment they make a 47 and 55 inch model. I'm just worried about not having enough power. What are your thoughts. I wish I had one to see in person before placing my order.

Flail mowers don't need the power of rotary mowers. I'd guess you would be fine, but may need to slow down in thick stuff.

Ford 1500 here with 19hp at the PTO. Run a caroni 54" flail with no issues. You should be able to find one from agri-supply for well under 3k. The TM variants have an offset postion that works well for the 4ft ones.

Was just going through 3ft brush yesterday and didn't even skip a beat.

With your mule the Fox S side shift series 47 inch model would be better for you power wise and performance wise as you lose at least 3 percent engine power due to altitude BUT in saying that changing air filters more often or changing to an oil bath air cleaner will help you a lot. The oil bath air cleaners can be combined with paper air cleaners if desired but are not necessary as the oil bath air cleaners are at 95+ percent efficient with full air flow.
Our Flail Mower Nations resident member powerscol has a Peruzzo elk side shift boom mower model if I remember it correctly and you can send him a PM through the board here to ask about his boom mower and the service he has received from Iowa Farm Equipment-they will deliver equipment as well so keep that in mind.

Agrisupply sells the Caroni mowers.
If you want to purchase a flail mower now you should call Iowa Farm Equipment and ask the Peruzzo flail mowers they have in stock sized for your mule.

Actually Leon I have the Mascho Giraffetta 160SE swing arm mower. However the Perusso Fox S was my second choice. I agree it would be a good fit for him. IFE was good to work with. Give them a call and talk over you specific needs and I am sure they have something for you. Prices are very good to.

My L3200 (32hp, 25pto) ran a 7' Ford 917 flail just fine up here in Parker. We have around 1,000' of elevation on you. In the dense 2-3' stuff I was poking along at partial pedal in low range but getting er done. Hours per acre on the 7' flail were similar to hours per acre on the 5' rotary cutter actually. But the flail is safer gave a better cut & mulched better.

My general rule is if you can lift it, you can spin it. You might have to go a bit slower, but it will run. Flails re-cut grass a few more times than a rotary. That results in more power usage but better mulching.
