I have a 2013 24’ Kaufman deckover gooseneck trailer that I bought used about 2 years ago. I use it to pick up hay for the horses. With a load of hay on it the trailer would push and pull the truck. It does not feel good. My truck is a 2001 F-250 with a 7.3. I have a 20’ gooseneck horse trailer and it pulls great. I did a internet search on this issue. The only thing I found was a person with a bumper pull Kaufman having a similar issue. Most comments on his posts were “ you get what you pay for” and most advised him to sell it and buy another trailer. At the end he responded that he had fixed the issue. He said it had 2 problems. The first was a wire for the electric brakes was chaffed and touching the frame. The other issue he found was on one of the shackles that hold the front of the lead springs it was over tightened. Fixing these issues solved his issues. I had let a friend borrow the trailer a few months ago and warned him of this issue. He was using a 2007 F-350 dually and he had the same problem. He said sell it and buy another trailer. So about 2 weeks ago I looked at my shackles and the one on the right side was tight on the leaf spring. I loosened it a little. I went to get a load of hay yesterday 15- 3’x3’x8’ large squares. I didn’t think that something that simple was the problem. The ride home was smooth, problem was solved. So it appears that someone at the factory is over tightening these bolts a little too much.
