I have a 2013 24’ Kaufman deckover gooseneck trailer that I bought used about 2 years ago. I use it to pick up hay for the horses. With a load of hay on it the trailer would push and pull the truck. It does not feel good. My truck is a 2001 F-250 with a 7.3. I have a 20’ gooseneck horse trailer and it pulls great. I did a internet search on this issue. The only thing I found was a person with a bumper pull Kaufman having a similar issue. Most comments on his posts were “ you get what you pay for” and most advised him to sell it and buy another trailer. At the end he responded that he had fixed the issue. He said it had 2 problems. The first was a wire for the electric brakes was chaffed and touching the frame. The other issue he found was on one of the shackles that hold the front of the lead springs it was over tightened. Fixing these issues solved his issues. I had let a friend borrow the trailer a few months ago and warned him of this issue. He was using a 2007 F-350 dually and he had the same problem. He said sell it and buy another trailer. So about 2 weeks ago I looked at my shackles and the one on the right side was tight on the leaf spring. I loosened it a little. I went to get a load of hay yesterday 15- 3’x3’x8’ large squares. I didn’t think that something that simple was the problem. The ride home was smooth, problem was solved. So it appears that someone at the factory is over tightening these bolts a little too much.

Cheap easy fixes are the best. Make sure your springs aren’t broken. I just had to replace all of mine and the equalizers. Granted, its older, but not abused.

I just did a complete overhaul of my kaufman 18ft car trailer. The way they wire these things and protect the wires is terrible. I also found my shackle and leaf spring bolts a seezed up but its been through 12 north east winters.
I did remove 22 scotch locks from the wireing about 8 years ago. This last fall i rewired the whole trailer. To me its just normal trailer repairs. Alot of these trailer manufacturers are after the bottom line, selling trailers. Cheap trailers sell. Some repairs are to be expected, tires, brakes, lights and bearings.

I’m getting ready to rewire too. What they do at the factory is a joke. Can’t believe it’s worked as long as it has really.

I went around and welded stainless 1/4-20 bolts by every light and a line of them down the bottom of the deck to connect grounds to and hold the wireing.

The square steel tube they run the wires through became a ball of rust inside and chaffed the wires to all ****. I would rather have the wireing out where i can see it.
