I posted this in the Snow Removal forum yesterday w/o much luck yet so I thought I would try here too.

I have acquired a 1990 vintage Fisher Under the Hood plow system. I was after the blade and A frame but the guy wanted it all removed so I took the push plate, pump/tank, valve, and mechanical joy stick too. It all works, at least it did. Now I am wondering what I might be able to do with the valve and/or pump but can't find any info. Info like is it open or closed center system, pump RPM vs flow characteristics and max RPM, and HP drive requirements. The old label is unreadable. There is no electric clutch on the pump. Probably someone here remembers these and can shed some light. Thank you.

I did find that the pressure is probably 1750 psi and the cross over relief is probably 4000 psi. Just common Fisher numbers so it's a guess on my part.

Gordon I saw this last night but had no info for you. Back in about '88, I did put on a Fisher plow and chose this type pump over electric and it worked flawlessly but other than that I couldn't remember a single thing about it, and I installed it (new) myself!:confused3:
I would guess that it's open center and tried to remember the piping/valve/controls but I'm drawing a blank. That means I never had to work on it, that part I do remember. I believe today's motors are just too packed full of s**t to allow mounting an extra pulley on the crank & the pump, but someone with an older "yard plow" may be interested (C/L) if you don't come up with a use for it.

I had one too. Came on an '86 F250 I bought for a plow truck. Only thing I new about it was that it worked good and it took ATF fluid. Didn't need to know any more. Your probably right about the CL thing. Find someone who needs a pump. I just hate to get rid of something that only cost me a Saturday morning wrenching in someone else's door yard. Seems like I am missing an opportunity to beat the system. In trying to Remember how fast that old F250 plow swung left or right when I goosed the gas a little and some very rough math makes me think the pump is about 1 gal/min give or take a whole bunch. And with that small tank I think it would have to be small cylinders or a system like a plow L/R where the return is equal to the out flow. I think you can get 3000 lbs each on those 1-1/2" plow cylinders if the 1750 psi is right. Seems like I should be able to do something with that. A can crusher - Fun to think about I guess on a rainy day like this and thanks for the comment Eric.

Yes the Fisher setup is an open center valves, all three cylinders were single acting.
The lift cylinder was only a 1 1/2inch x ten inch, the angle cylinders were also single acting
so extending one shoved the other one closed. The pump was only 2 or 2 1/5 gpm rated from my memory.
I don't recall the exact pressure but it wasn't very high, some of use would use a power steering pump to replace it when it went out.
Most of then where under driven by a small amount from the crank.

Thanks Lou !! That 2 gal/min at full RPM which must be about 3500 ??? is what I was wondering about. Know anybody that needs a pump ??

Not at this time I let both of my last ones go 2 years ago with my last full hydraulic truck mounted plow.
I do think that in some ways they where better then the newer electric hydraulic, you could actually push yourself out of some situations with them.
My last full hydraulic on a pickup also had a hydraulic driven sander in the bed and you could direct the flow to either the plow or the sander.
Unfortunately the frame of that truck finally let go for the last time, I had welded it a couple of times.
When I scrapped that truck loading it the truck (84 Chevy K20) broke into 3 pieces.

I have belt driven on the plow that's on my 78 Ford. New in 78 and still working. It added a second pulley to the alternator and a small belt to the pump. Mine is Monarch brand. At the time I bought the plow, they swapped the electric/hydraulic for belt driven pump hydraulics at no charge.
