Tractor
looking to buy
Hey there guys, getting 27 acres of land and plan on starting a farm, cows , pigs, crops, ect. Have been researching tractors. Have looked into LS, Kioti, Kubota. If I can be honest I just figured Deere's would be to pricey for me. There is a large dealer 10 minutes from where I'm moving so want get a feel for Deere's before I go to dealership. Looking at Kubota mx Series, LS XR 4150, kioti Nx4510. So I'm looking at around 45 hp. What is the Deere advantage? Why did you buy a Deere over the other brands? Which model would you recommend? Thanks for the help guys.

I bought used, a 20 year old John Deere, 25 years ago. The closest dealer was a JD dealer and they are still here. So it was dealer support and parts support.

Went through this process this year. Bought about the same size tractor you are considering. Went with LS. JD was a lot more money (huge difference actually) and the dealer was not very good. It was a no brainer.

Traded an old JD855...and the way the dealer handled my needs with the 855 was what soured me on the dealer.

I'd look for a used tractor on tractor house, preferably a very nice used machine with less than 300 hours. You can save some money and JD will still finance 0% interest.
I'd at least look for a 50HP tractor. Most JD preventative maintenance parts can be purchased online even on ebay.
My dealership is full of folks I went to school with and there's not another brand dealership in my town. Kubota would be my second choice they are offering some good deals right now also..

To answer one of your questions... Dealership reputation. Note: where I live, ALL dealerships for all of the colours are a minimum 2 hours away.

I asked local tractor owners (across the boundary fence and 'at the Pub'). The John Deere dealership consistently came up as the best for customer support; parts, and service, including in the 'field'.

I then visited the Deere dealership, with one of those local tractor owners (MF)... the short story was that the Salesman (a farmer himself) asked and listened to what I needed a tractor to do for me... showed me what he could offer (somewhat expensive 38hp models) then went on to sell me a less expensive (bare bones) 41hp tractor with discounted implements. (the 4105 I have) There wasn't one on the lot, so he call someone who'd recently bought one and then drove us over to that tractor so that I could 'have a go' on it.

Free delivery (with a full tank of diesel). Included 'on site' 50hr service. Heck, on top of the standard 'ball cap', he gave me a vinyl JD/Dealership branded 'bomber jacket'.

Since then (2013), that dealership has lived up to that reputation. Always answering questions over the phone, printing off schematics if I needed them... they once opened up early so that I could get a part to get me back to work during the haying season.

Unfortunately, all dealerships (any colour) are not the same.

What is the requirements for zero percent on USED John Deere from a JD dealer? Under 300hours?

Look at every brand you can find in your area. Go and sit on them and run them if they will let you. Huge difference between prices and options, also consider implements you will need for operating a farm like you are describing. Good luck.

Might also consider 2 tractors . A larger 2 wheel drive for ag related things and a smaller 4 wd for work around house and barn. lots of older 2wd tractors out there for sale at decent prices. Changing implements is tiring and time consuming thats why farmers have multiple tractors.

My requirements were a lot smaller tractor than you are looking at but the same holds true. I never thought I would end up buying a JD either because of price but in the end after a few weeks of shopping and sending e-mails to various dealers JD ended up being the best deal for me. And the 0% for 5 years was a no brainer. I bought from a dealer 2 hours away from me. They delivered the tractor and brought the paper work for me to sign. I have never been to the dealership. This was January of 2014 and my tractor is paid off. Many will tell you the 0% really isn't 0%, well for me it's simple match and it really was 0%. Dealer said same price cash or finance through JD, he didn't care one way or the other. I could have paid cash and had a $20k dent in my bank account but why? Shop around, but for me pricing was a lot more of a consideration than dealer location.
