Went to move the tractor yesterday and found a big pool of something on the floor of the shop. I had used the tractor a few days earlier and everything was fine so this happened quickly. I thought it was an oil leak at first but couldn't find it. Finally started looking higher up and found the fuel filter was leaking from the top not the glass or area around it. Turns out the shut off lever has an o-ring on it that went bad. Not sure how since I have never moved the shutoff lever and my tractor is only about 3 years old. Anyway, simple fix. Remove the small screw on the front side of the lever housing and pull the entire lever out. Replace the o-ring and then replace the lever being sure you get it seated all the way. It comes out easy but does not go back in easily. Once you are positive it's fully seated, replace the set screw and check for leaks. a .59 cent part that I spent around 10$ in fuel driving to get. Yes, I grabbed some spares.

Thanks for the heads up. I will add that to the inspection list when I do the next service on mine.

I have a problem on my 273 where the lever will not shut the fuel completely off. Makes quite a mess when trying to change the fuel filter. I wonder if the same o-ring is at fault. Do you happen to know what size it was?

Don't remember off the top of my head. I pinched the fuel line closed and removed the valve then took the o-ring down to the hardware store to match it up. Bought a couple of spares too. The one I got was a really tight fit compared to the original so it took some time getting the valve back in place and fully seated. Hasn't leaked a drop since though!

Good afternoon all,
For our T293 tractor, that particular o-ring is sized to P44 specification.

Note: The size will vary depending on your tractor model. The bigger the tractor, the bigger the o-ring. :)
