x300
I just used my mower for the first time. Does not seem as balanced as my L111 (top heavy) was but feels sturdier, steers better and runs smoother. That said, grass gut is no better or worse and the tranny with the exception of not slipping in reverse feels the same as the L111 which I expected regardless of what the dealer told me about it being heavier that the big box series. Nice unit but I'm wondering if it was worth the extra $1,000.00, I guess I expected more!

eagleguy, you sure sound upset over your purchase becuase this is your 3rd thread on dissapointment. I think that maybe you want something aa little more heavy duty. I think you have like 30 days or something to return the tractor. if this is true, maybe you can step up to something that you will feel a major difference with like a x500 or something. It wouldnt be a bad option. sure it will cost a few more bucks but you just wont be happy until your satisifed. I would contact the dealer tomorrow to check things out. Like i said, it may cost more and ad a year or two to your payments but maybe you will sleep better. The x500 and x700 will give you much more options. X700 will allow you to ad a loader later on as well when funds permit.

Chin,

Unfortunately as I have stated in my previous threads that’s not an option.

I've had my x300 for 3 yrs and even though I learned afterwards that the tranny is a weak link. I love the handling of it. The steering is so sweat compared to my past couple JD riders. I figure that when the tranny does fail that I will invest in the upgrade tranny. I found that using the tool that comes with the mower to level the deck is no good. If you use as directed then your blades will be off by about a half inch. I bought one of the JD blade measuring gismos and level the blades, not the deck housing. Once I did that I found that it cut perfect. My x300 was only about 3K which is about $200 less than what I paid in 1991 for my LX172 and is way more of a mower. It's up to you but I would enjoy it and not look back. Especially if upgrading to a larger model isn't a option.

I have had my x30 for a bit now and have some observations. The positives: This unit is head and shoulders above the quality above of my prior 100 series. It just FEELS better. The steering is great, the turning radius is great and the engine runs smoothly. The negatives: The unit is top heavy and the tranny as stated previously seems to be the weakest link. It hums and whines like no tomorrow. The controls on this unit are lacking as far as I’m concerned. I understand the plusses but I’m not overly impressed. On the plus side the unit has a lot longer warranty than the 100 series and I intend to get my monies worth!

X300 sux. 42 inch mower leaves grass between two mower blades! Have to mows twice to get decent results. Should have bought KUBOTA! JD IS WASTED MONEY!

Funny I love mine. I must be really stupid though for buying such a piece of junk. I should really tell my boss, as he pays me a lot of money for being smart. :p

All sarcasm aside, the x300 is not going to be a magic bullet for everyone, but aside from the tranny, it is a very solid machine and mine certainly doesn't have the blade issue digger bob mentions above. Mine mows fantastic and covers about an acre of yard I have just fine, part of which is about a 30 degree slope.

Why reply to morons? Some posts don't deserve a reply.
