Here's a direct link to my photo album of this years food plot project. The plot turned out great, but the deer haven't really even turned onto it. I believe our weather has had a huge impact, with warmer than normal temps and we have only had 2 very light snows.
Anyway, just thought I'd share my project.

I am confused (old guy). Is this a food plot to feed people or one to attract game (deer, etc.) for hunting? :confused2:

It's a food source, mainly for deer. I did, however, eat a turnip or 2 :)

It is a food plot mix. Turnips, oats, triticale, clover. The turnips germinated better than the rest.

Great looking food plot! What else did you plant other than Turnips? You have a few more options on what you can grow in Missouri than I can grow well here, but oats have been hard to beat almost anywhere for whitetails.

That mix had oat and triticale, but they didn't take quite as well as the turnips. It was my first food plot, and got a bit of a late start on it. I didn't use a herbicide or fertilizer on the plot prior. I wasn't sure what the results would be, but I was pleased by how it turned out.

Oh yeah, plot looks sweet! I'm surprised the deer haven't been using it. I planted turnips and rye in the plot 75 yards behind the house, there's 8 does/button bucks in it as I'm typing this. See any tracks in it, or have any trail cam pictures? Mark

Nice pics, Yep,we plant oats here too. Planted last day of August. Because of the mild weather this year, they grew into Thanksgiving. Was not uncommon to see 20 deer in the field. We also back that up with wheat, alfalfa, red clover, bluegrass, soybean, corn. Don't plant turnips anymore, they don't eat them here. Also have apple, and pear trees. To high a price for those mixes. Can do better for far less money. Also depends what is planted around U. Oh yeah, almost forgot, my son harvested this in 2010, nearby.

Plenty of pics on the trail cam, but almost all are at night. They have been eating the tops, but I haven't noticed them pulling the bulbs yet. The weather has been so strange. The deer have been able to eat and browse whatever they want because we haven't hardly even started winter yet. We've only had 2 snow dustings this year. By this time last year, we had already had 2 or 3 snows over 10" each. I think if we were having that type of winter, they would be all over it. Less than 2 weeks of bow season left, so I may not get the weather I need to really put them on it. At least there will be a food source once the weather does turn.

Here's a picture of the buck I took this year with my Bow:

Here he is again, not in the food plot, but a better picture
