Thanks to all who responded to my questions. Its' good to have folks around who have "been there, done that" and share knowledge and opinion so easily.

I only got to spend a half hour on the tractor last night because of prior commitments but it was 30 minutes of hog heaven. I moved some dirt with the loader and found out I'm not quite as skilled as I had hoped but got the job done anyway. Had one of my brothers drop by and tell me I need to get the backhoe. That would be great if I could afford it. He said he would pay for it if he could use it. I have seen him operate equipment before and dont think this would be a good trade. I should have more time this evening to play(I mean work) and can't wait to get home to her.

Switching gears, I'm not able to access this site through my home PC through my ISP peoplePC for some reason. It says "forbidden" and something about my server, so I'll be a little erratic in my responses til I figure out what the home computer server limitation is.

I still have to buy a tiller for my garden and have been looking at Tractor Supply Company. Saw a 60" KING KUTTER for about $1000. Is this tiller worth buying or should I look at something heavier/better? The Kubota dealer quoted me a price of $1800 for a 50" BEFCO SLIP_CLUTCH tiller with offset capability but I thought these features were overkill for my simplistic needs(and tight budget). What does anybody think?

Again, my thanks for the responses from Markv, cisco, frank_f15, and john_bud.

Congrats on that new L... The KK tiller is a" heavy built" unit. You want the 6 blades per flange, the gear drive, and it should also have a slip-clutch protected PTO.

If it does'nt have these features, then it must be a different tiller than what I've been seeing. The 60" King Kutter II (model TG-60-Y )weighs in at 690 lbs. They don't make them much heavier than that.

MReeter,

Thanks for the info, appreciate it. I have read some of the discussions in other threads and take it from your response and others that the shear pin variety is not as valued as the slip clutch variety but doesnt this option usually cost considerably more than the shear pins? Like I said before, the dealer price on the BEFCO 50" SLIPCLUTCH was about double the KK. I realize cost is not the only factor to consider but do you think it is worth double for the slip clutch? I have no frame of reference so I will rely on your and other opinions on this one. Thanks for the reply.

On a side note I see that you live in Chillicothe Mo. I am about 45 minutes from Chillicothe OHIO. Wouldnt have thought there would be another CHILLICOTHE. Go figure.

From the King Kutter site:

KING KUTTER II GEAR DRIVEN ROTARY TILLERS are designed to preform with its heavy duty gear drive and square tube frame. With 6 tines per flange, you get maxium soil mix for preparing planting beds, gardens, incorporting fertilizer, landscaping, or other jobs. This category 1 tiller incluldes a PTO shaft with heavy duty slip clutch. Available in 4, 5, and 6 ft models. The 4 ft model is offset to eliminate tire tracks.

You can get the slip clutch and still save they money /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I don't have a tiller but have seen slip clutches you could buy separately and add to rotary cutters, think they were around $75 - $100 so don't think it should add too much to the price of a tiller

I almost bought a Befco 60" tiller with no slip clutch, $1700, but called around and ended up with a Land Pride 58" with slip clutch for the same money. I am very pleased with the clutch as I've hit roots and rocks that I know would have broke the shear pin. For the 20 hours I have on my tiller so far, I know I would have broke 5 or 6 pins. Might not seem like a major cost savings, but your time devoted to your project is priceless.

BTW, the Befco does have the option of shifting from center to the left to cover the left tire. My Land Pride is stationary to cover the right tire. The ability to shift from center to the side holds no additional value, IMHO. The stationary shift works great for me.

Another 3010 joins the fold! Congrats on your new tractor! You'll have that FEL working up a storm in no time. Doesn't take long to get the 'feel' for it. What a great tractor! The more I've done with mine, the more impressed i am with it.
Happy Tractoring!

Frank,

I did get her initiated on day 2. I did not get to do any major excavation but I think the little jobs are probably better for me to start on anyway until I get a better feel for the controls. I did repair some of my driveway with the loader and it was in short time compared to the shovel and wheel barrow method-----I love my tractor. Aint kubota life grand? See ya.

My brother has bigger eyes than his wallet could stand, but it would not surprise me if one day he came home with a bh. That would entitle him to take my baby on the construction site--------DONT THINK THAT WILL HAPPEN THOUGH.

So much to do yet so little time. Thinking about a week of vacation just so I can actually have some quality time with her, hope the wife doesnt get jealous.
