Tiller First Choice Tiller ROCKS!

I really had no idea that a tractor-mounted tiller can be so powerful. After having the new property cleared and then getting every single stump ground down, I thought that was the end of it. Well, the new tiller found lots of roots and below-grade stumps on her maiden voyage. There were chunks of wood flying everywhere, but the tractor wasn't bogging and the tiller was running smoothly. The dirt behind the tiller was smooth and clump-free. When I was finished, I was a little afraid to look, but pulled up the rear flap and discovered that everything was in perfect shape. No bent tines! WooHOO!

I think it is fair to say that the First Choice is a pretty good tiller.

Thats real good news. My First Choice Tiller and post hole digger gets delivered Monday morning. Can't wait to get going with it. Glad to hear yours is doing well. How big is your garden?

Good luck with your PHD. Our garden is about 30 X 60, but the big area that needed to be done so it is smooth and grassy is about 250 X 100. It was clogged with hawthorn saplings, vines, and heaven knows what else. It looks just as good as the farmer's field across the way now. I seeded with Envirolawn - low water, slow grow, tolerant of everything. I'll be watching to see if it grows now!

Jim,
Can you provide a few details about the tiller. What size did you get, is it gear or chain drive. How about offset, can it be done and if so, does the gear box stay in line with the tractor PTO? Im currently shopping around and would appreciate any info.

Hi Dave:

It is a First Choice (Sicma) 57" normal rotation (same direction as tires when tractor is moving forward) chain drive tiller. It is very heavily built, but doesn't seem too heavy for Thor (TC25D) at all. It is advertised as offsettable, but since there is only a half inch or so difference between my tires and the tiller, I haven't really checked that out. You can get more info from Ken Sweet at sweettractors.com. The price was $1099 plus $94 shipping. It really does work great.
