Just wondering what everyone pays for a cord of firewood. Here is kansas, I pay $90 for a full cord of hardwood (hedge), partially split.

What are you paying per cord?

Well, I harvest my own so would have to compute the cost of the tractor, winch, chainsaws etc amortized over x number of years.

But since I live in a tourist town good, split hardwood is very expensive. I've seen seasoned wood as high as $250 a cord, and log length or 16" rounds as low as $150 per cord. Either way, I'm delighted to have enough land to keep myself warm in the winter!

Hard to visualize what "partially split" means. ??

$90 for a full cord of hedge sounds like a good deal.

That made me think of a local grocery store flyer I seen the other week. They were advertising semi boneless hams /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Means some kid aplit it just enough to be alled split. Probably hlaves or big quarters. Need to cut down more for burning. Oddly, the literature with the new stoves recommends quite small wood except for the overnight creosote causing burns.

We see about 150$ to 200 per cord of seasoned evergreen. Cut split and delivered cords. They dump it in your driveway. If it was only 90 dollars per seasoned cord of hardwood, I would have to seriously consider just buying the wood and saving my back. We are in the timberlands for crying out loud, it should be cheap here.

In our area it goes for about $90 per face cord in the city and about $50 in rural areas. Can buy a log truck of hardwood logs, mostly beech, ash, and maple for $450 and cut about 25 face cords out of it.

The local paper is advertising it for anywhere from 130$ for green wood to around $200.

That's what people here think, also. But the local paper mill is paying $75/cord for tree length hardwood; weight scale, with no haggling over how much is there. Also no waiting a year for it to season; no splitting it or other handling... and no long wait after delivery to get paid.
(I'm not a woodcutter though, I just play on my woodlot on weekends. Last year I cut 45 cords, my biggest year ever)

May be a local thing, but we buy and sell firewood by the "rick" here. (Supposed to be half-a-cord)

Also, it depends on what part of town you live in (or near)

Most everyone that sells a lot of wood gets $50 to $70 a rick. You can add $20 to $30 on that if it's delivered. Add MORE if you want it stacked.

We live just south of what is considred the "rich" part of town. (Expensive houses, high property values, desireable location, ect) Wood prices are even higher around here. I've seen several adds for good hardwood, delivered, over $125 a rick.

One local gas station sells it, bundled with 5 to 7 pieces, for $19.95. (small pieces at that) I tried te estimate one day while waiting in line for gas. I figure they're selling it that way for something like $900 a rick. SUre hate to heat my house THAT WAY!

Partially split?

Hmmm, here is the definition! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My wood supplier splits the wood just small enough so he can lift it into his truck. But that also means I have to split it all AGAIN to get the pieces into my wood stove. heheheheh. what a guy. But the price is great, tho.
Maybe I should call his firewood, "Ready to split AGAIN!"

This year Ive cut all my own wood and havent bought any firewood because I found some brush piles to cut up and have almost 10 cords on hand. (Love that new MS260 Stihl chainsaw /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif )

Fired mine up yesterday to trim a couple trees overhanging the driveway. That is one fine saw. They re-affirm the saying "You get what you pay for". Not cheap, but VERY high quality.
