I loaded Firefox browser last nights and my computer is back to normal, in fact at this point it is working better than it has for a long time. I will report back in a few days and give an update on it.

It is a nice brower by Mozilla. No IE crap either! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I just installed it a few minutes ago. Seems to work great so far.

Vin; What is Firefox other than a fictional airplane that Clint Eastwood flew? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif That was a good movie tho. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have been using Firefox for about 3 months now and I am in front of the computer for 7 or 8 hours a day. I love it.

For those who haven't looked at it, it has a similar look to MS Internet Explorer but the options are much easier to use. Bookmarks are easy to manage. All around great browser.

I just installed it but sometimes I don't get full pages and it tells me additional pllug ins are required to display this page. I click on install the plug ins and it gets half way through and tells me it can't connect to server that has a certain file. I click retry a few times and then cancel and then it tells me everything was installed successfully. But if I go back to the page the won't display it will tell me again that I need additional plug ins.

A browser by Monzilla that has just been released in non-beta form about 10 days ago. In a very short time it reportedly has garnered about 7% of the browser market and is growing. Reportedly extremely secure, and rumored to have been recommended by the Dept of Homeland Security (according to one report I read). I've used 0.8 and now use 1.0, I like it, but I like Safari a bit better; Firefox seems to be far more compatible that Safari. I use IE only on the rare website that has some sort of conflict or loading issue.

It's just because of stuff like this, or the need to switch back to another browser in case of incompatibilty, that has always kept me from using the "other" browsers. Every time there is a new release of Opera or Mozilla or now Firefox or others, there is a flurry of articles saying how it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then, buried deep in the review, you'll find the list of things similar to side effects in drug advertisements...

...I use Internet Explorer and I shop at Walmart and I'm not ashamed... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Agreed. Why some people think it's a net improvement to have to use 2 browsers is a mystery to me. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I've tried Firefox, and most of the other browsers, found these incompatibilities and went back to IE.

It's also a mystery to me why people have to bash MS (or WalMart or [fill in the blank]) every time their name appears. Accomplishes nothing. Guess it makes them feel better. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Just go to the plugins page on the mozilla site and install all the common plugins that IE already has, flash, shockwave, etc... Also go to Sun's site and install Sun's Java (JRE).

I've been using Firefox and previously Mozilla for a long long time now and have no problems on 99% of sites. They key is sun's jre and the proper plugins. I also have a couple extensions from mozilla's extensions page like tabbed browsing extensions that open links in new tabs and open last closed tab and I do have one that adds a right ckick open in IE which is inevitable for the very occassional IE only site which I have found to be less and less all the time.

I have been slowly converting people at work from Outllook to Thunderbird and once they give it a proper try they wonder what took so long. Firefox has been a harder convert as MS has done such an exceptional job of making things easy. You really have to give it a honest try before you see it's value.

Regards,
Kevin
