What is the best fire estinguisher for a round baler? Where can I find a source for them?

I buy all my fire extinguishers from Lowes. I bought the type that included Gasoline and Grease Fires in the listing. Best wishes.

A lot of rd baler manufacturers recommend the 2-1/2 gal. water fire ext.

I like the idea of an Indian pack. (brand name) It is a 5 gal. tank that can be worn like a back pack and has a pump that works by extending and retracting the nozzle shaft. It will shoot a stream of water 10' or more and if you put the end of your finger over the end it sprays well. Fire departments use them for small brush fires in remote locations.

Hello drbarta,


Any local welding supply company in your area will
have ABC and CO2 fire extinguishers as most of them
recharge them and inspect annually them as well-this
is required by most insurers for adequate insurance
coverage in the case of loss of property by fire or lightning.


Ideally if you can purchase a 20 pound CO2 fire extinguisher
and have a smaller ABC powder unit as a back up unit that
will work well as the CO2 unit will not leave any residue if you
are unfortunate enough to have a fire occur in your baler.

You will want to wash the baler out with a steam jenny preferably to
remove the residue and any grease that has accumulated and did
not burn up if the baler is still serviceable.

If at all possible have a gasoline powered leaf blower available to clear
out the bale chamber and any dust that remains in the twine box and
the knotter area as the dust of course is highly combustable.

Water if it is for a roll of hay but then you can not put out a roll of hay on fire once it gets in the center without unrolling it we learned after an electric fence caught our rows of rolled hay on fire.

the truth is a fire extingishers are useless in putting out a baler fire.most times if a baler catches on fire you just have time bail off the tractor an get out of the way.an unhooking from tractor is risky but i know few thats done it.as well as back the baler in a pool if 1 is close by.
