Hi all. I'm having pretty good luck finding a variety of finish mowers used on Craigslist.... specifically I have found many woods PRD models as well as bush hog units.... I'm picking up and pulling with a kubota L3901. Do you guys have any insights into any of these mowers? I'm pretty motivated to purchase one soon...

I have a Woods RD72 that I use behind a L2800. The neighbors thought I was opening a private golf course. The PRD units are heavier than the RD by a hundred pounds or more with a heavier gearbox and longer warranty. As far as power, you could easily spin any of the 84 inch or smaller units. As far as mowing, unlike a shredder, a finish mower carries all its weight on its own wheels while mowing and I find that the ride is better with the front loader detached. A finish mower also has far less overall length so carrying it is not an issue without the loader. Basic maintenance is just keep the wheels, wheel pivots, spindles greased, and have a spare belt handy. I am using these with great results. Amazon.com: powerdrive 5lk kevlar

ritschner.... do the PRD vs. RD discharge differently. Its important to me that the discharge is even and across the whole rear as to lessen any clumping etc.. Thanks for the input.

I believe the discharge is the same. The finish mowers do a much better job on even distribution than shredders, that is why I bought one. The distribution is also out across the back instead of out the side, so they do not blow grass everywhere. They also cut these tough Texas weeds much cleaner without the windrows. They are pretty much a riding mower on steroids.

The RD 7200 is rated up to 35 HP. Weight is 603 lbs. The PRD 7200 (which is what I have) weights in at 719 lbs and is rated up to 40 HP but a gearbox up to 60HP. Love mine. Would go without it. Its that good.

I have the 72" RDTH Rear Discharge Finishing Mower from Bush Hog... it's a tank. Cuts very well, even distribution of clippings... Got it used for $750, it looked brand new, they don't come up for sale that look good (clean).

I have the RD7200 on my L3400. Zero problems in 9 years. Works great. I can imagine the PRD is even better. Would be too heavy for my L3400 though.

Also Woods makes low, medium, and high lift blades. In non-wet grass the high lift distribute clumps better for me.
