I have no experience with finish mowers so I need a little advice. I have about 10 acres that I need to mow and keep in a "park like" condition. Will a finish mower or gang mower pulled behind my tractor work or am I going to have to buy one of those expensive landscape mowers? I've heard that your speed limited with the finish mowers and time is something I don't have a lot of.

If your 10 acres somewhat smooth and time is a factor,I would check out 4 or 6 gang mower set..depending on the size of your tractor.

without your profile filled out showing what tractor you intend to use it's going to be difficult for anyone to offer you much in the way of solid advice here. Telling you to use something isn't much help if your tractor won't pull it or if you're tractor is so large the attachment isn't large enough.

why don't you do a search on this site for wing mowers, trail mowers and you will find quite a few entries ... that will you help reduce the tie you spent mowing your park. if you still have questions after the search, please let me know and i will give you as much time as you need.

good luck

helobubba,We finish mow approx. 10-11 acres weekly through the season,I try to keep the grass in a "Park like condition" We bought our Turf-Flex last Summer and it has been a great mower soo far.I perfer this type of mower over a "Gang Type reel mower" as the reel type are a job to service.Plus, they just cut too short for my taste.

Bush Hog,Landpride,Befco,Woods and Rhino all build this type of mower.I went with the Rhino as I felt it was the best of the lot,for the price.Ours is 3-5' decks, with the overlap,it cuts about 13'5"-14'.Most of the mowers out there come in a 12' model also, not sure of your P.T.O. hp. but takes a minimum of 30 hp. to run the 12' models.

What size bat wing finish mower is that? 12 or 15? How long does it take you to mow your 10-11 acres? What size tractor? I am looking at a Befco 15 footer. I have had a Woods 9180 and now I have a Land Pride AFM 11. The Land Pride is junk compared to the Woods. What do you all think about Befco?

   / Finish Mower Question #8
Our mower is 15',the finish cutting width is 13'5"-14'.I mow about 7 acres of our property with this mower in 2 hrs,but I go fairly slow, the mower does the best job of cutting at about 3-3 1/2 mph.I use a Kubota L-4610 to pull it.

Befco was the only other brand I would consider, they have a Cyclone Super-Flex line that is very well built and has some good features. This model was the closest one I could find that would compare to the Rhino.

The Befco dealer was 90 miles away and Rhino dealer was 40 miles, the Befco was about $3500.00 higher in price also,so for me,it was an easy choice...I have no complaints at all with the Rhino,I would buy another one tomorrow.

Hi Mike,

How much did you pay for the Rhino 15' and what was the model #?

I bought a package Massey/Befco ... 2 summers ago... and approximate price of a 15' Befco Superflex batwing mower alone was ~~$8400... and was changed to a 12' at the last minute for ~~$400. less...

The popular finish cut batwing mowers sold in our area are Woods and Befco... and most of the bigger Rhino's sold here are for rough cut...

You get up in that price range... and they all appear to be solid performers... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

John, the Befco Dealer is in North Kansas City, much bigger market in their area, the Super Flex model is also their top of the line mower, seems like they have about 3 different grade qualitiy of mowers.

The Rhino Dealer I bought our mower from is located in a Rural Ag Area, very depressed market. He had been sitting on this mower for close to a year, and was ready to move it.We gave $8,500. for it. The list was around $12,500. Befco Dealer was asking 12 grand for their unit.

It is a Turf Flex TX135.
