Well, I think I can finally retire the trusty 22-year-old JD240:laughing: I jumped on the ZTR band wagon.

A friend that I used to work with and currently plow snow for in the winter owns a lawn care business. He bought out an outfit here locally and included some 25 or so mowers (most low hour diesel machines and out of my price range). Also several trucks/trailers/skid-steer, etc.

Since he had already just bought a bunch of new mowers before this deal happened, he is selling a lot of the stuff.

So...without further ado, I got a Scag Wildcat 61" cut. Clock shows 2900 hours but he had just put a BRAND NEW Kohler 27HP on it last year...~300hours ago. Also has a brand new seat, brand new tires, new blades, and he replaced all the hydro motors and spindle motors about 1000hrs ago:thumbsup: Selling price was $3500 which I thought was fair.

He is also a very meticulous business owner. EVERYTHING gets 50hr services and EVERYTHING is very well cared for. Like he said, there isnt much money in mowing so his machines HAVE to last as long as possible:thumbsup:

So here's a pic:thumbsup:

I think you'll enjoy mowing with that Skag.

Just curious. Any idea what a new Skag of that size would cost?

With minimal online searching, I was comming up with between 8k and 9k for a new scag wildcat.

But like with anything else, options change the price, so that is probabally the reason for the differences. The wildcats were also offered with a kawasaki motor so that might change price a bit. They were also offered with a smaller 52" deck.

Just an update:

I got out and mowed last night:thumbsup:

I am really suprised I didn't get it stuck because It was still REALLY wet and muddy. But I couldnt resist the temptation to try it out:laughing:

There are only a couple of minor issues with the mower that I will be addressing.

1st, the main drive idler pulley is noisy:confused2: So I will be replacing that. Just a plain old 3" flat idler with 5/8" hole. ~$15 @ TSC:thumbsup:

2nd thing is one of the front wheel bearings is shot. I am actually impressed with the set-up. I was expecting a worn bushing, but it actually has dual tapered rollers with seals on the outer:thumbsup: So a $10 bearing and a $3 seal and I will be back in business:thumbsup:

Other than that, everything is perfect:thumbsup:

Congratulations on the ZTR! Sounds like it was in pretty good shape, those minor problems make it sound like an even better mower and made to last.
