I finally had a chance to make a stack for my Grand L 40 cab tractor. I have been putting it off because of the problems with the fel upright being in the way and the angle of the original exhaust coming off the tractor. But I decided last week I had to get it done.

I wanted a stack that doesn't block the picture window view of my cab. I also wanted a stack high enough that lets the exhaust out high overhead and not in my face when I walk by or work around the running tractor.

I came up with a simple off set design with only two mounting points, and two flex pipes. Why two flex pipes. One flex pipe for the pipe coming off the motor, the original exhaust was just free floating and was able to move separately from the frame. So that is important. The second flex pipe is to give some movement from the rubber mounted cab. The exhaust is mounted to the frame by one bolt securely between the two flex pipes so each flex pipe moves independently of the other, this is important, because you don't want the cab movement to transfer to the pipe at the motor. Then a bracket at the mirror post with one rubber mount. That is all that is needed to mount the stack.
I also added a stainless steel water drain at the lowest point of the exhaust just after the front axle. It sounds really nice, a low mellow gargle tone at idle.

Because of the angle of the exhaust pipe coming off the muffler it is almost impossible to use any ready made adapter and end up at the right angle. I solved that problem by using a 1 3/4 to two inch pipe adaptor. I cut the adaptor and welded to the factory pipe as shown in the pictures. I cut the adaptor so just the flair to two inches is showing, once the adaptor was welded to the factory pipe then I used a 2 inch elbow. Together its like a ball and socket, I now was able to rotate and pivot it any angle to clear the engine side cover and head the pipe in the right direction. Once the elbow was where I wanted it, I just welded it together.
I have a 11 inch chrome exhaust guard coming for the side of the exhaust under the mirror.
So it goes from the stock exhaust 1 /3/4 pipe to the 2 inch elbow then from the flex pipe on it's 2 1/4 pipe. I got the idea of using the off set and running up the side of the cab from the new Kubota M9540 cab exhaust stack. Remember the last picture, things are about to change light wise.

Another extremely well crafted design. My only complaint is the mirror in pic #11. :D

Nice job. How far does the new piping run under the hood?

Thanks guys,

Nice job. How far does the new piping run under the hood?

Just at the elbow, what you see here. I hammered the lip of the elbow so it stays on the adaptor, this is so that elbow can pivot in any direction to meet the weird angle needed for the stack pipe and to clear the side panel. Then once where I wanted it I welded it. Any higher I would loose that ability to adjust.
No need to replace the original pipe any further.
