I have a 3,000 series bought new in 2003. Been a wonderful piece of durable equipment.. Noticed a few weeks ago one tank was not delivering fuel so I switched to the other and went on my merry way. Well wife was mowing a few days ago. (Good wife I know) but anyhow it died and would not start. so I pulled the fuel filter and blew back into the tank.. all I could hear was air..I looked into the tank and I could see fuel.. so that tells me something has went haywire.
I pulled the little 90 degree fitting from the tank /grommet and the pick up line had rotted off.. So out of curiosity I pulled it out of the other tank and it too had rotted off.. Now I need to replace all three tank lines and two of the clunks.. They sure used some cheap junk for fuel lines in there.

I don't have a Ferris, but sure would like to, I was wondering if you had used fuel with ethanol in it? Ethanol can tear up fuel lines fairly quickly.

I have only used regular unleaded fuel from the local pumps. No E85 or anything like that.

Unfortunately, "regular" 87 octane gasoline is 10% ethanol here in NY. Have heard lots of problems with the fuel. Local mom and pop power equipment guy suggested I only use hi test for small engines. Now that boating season has started, several guys at my club have complained about bad gas and fuel lines and tanks going bad. I have to run my boat engine with the choke half closed.
Basically, point I'm making is the fuel you're using probably has 10% ethanol. Shelf life suffers, so make sure you keep fresh gas in. Running the engines dry would eliminate the fuel from going bad in the tank, but could damaged a two cycle engine as it runs dry without any lubricant. Darned if you do darned if you don't.

I had this happen after 1 year on a Craftsman mower with a B&S engine.

Ethanol, not only do you get the pleasure of paying more at the store for everything, because of high corn prices, you also get to enjoy it eating up you equipment.

plus the energy density is lower, so there really isn't any significant savings. whatever few cents you save at the pump is eaten by the fewer mpg you get from a tank.

what a total scam and what idiots that are pushing this crap on us! i'm all for saving the planet, but let's be a little smarter, eh?
