want to buy
Ferris IS 500Z
going to look at a Ferris IS 500Z tomorrow -it`s a 2012 the last yr they made it and last one they have..

Their asking $5,000 out the door-I will test drive it(never driven ZTR)

so we`ll see.

0% finance for 48 months makes me do crazy things--Wife said get it if you like it.

If you have one of these tell me about it.

My neighbor has one. While I am mowing with a tractor with R4 kryptonite hard tires using a RFM and beating my brains out he glides along on his Ferris like riding a boat on a smooth lake. My neighbor is a super nice guy. Only when we mow are yards at the same time do I have evil thoughts about him.

Is that ZTR they want $5k for the 44", 52" or 61"???
It's funny you are being told 2012 was the last year for this model...the Ferris website still shows it???? See link below:

Zero Turn Mower IS 500Z | Ferris ZTR Lawn Mowers

P.S.
Can't elaborate on whether that's a good deal until you tell me what size deck it has.

It is the 44" deck =$5,000 tax included otd price.

Yep she said last yr for the 500

I looked and tested the Ferris -rides nice in gravel lot.
Been setting outside for a lonnnnnnnnng time rusty parts all over
I asked about a discount for the looks--no deal.

Moved on to the Toro dealer I went to last week and now stepping up to the

ZX4820=After $500 rebate= $4599. I actually like the way it handles more and standard features it has are all I need..

Close on the house thursday so next week or so will get the 0* for 48 months finance and this baby is mine

Mike,

You might want to check out the Ferris IS2000 leftovers - mine was $7K in 2010 - a lot more machine. But I do understand if they left it out and - not a good thing - pass on the 500. The IS 700 new this year should be around $5500 or the alternative, Simplicity machines (also built by Ferris) are in the $5K range - look at the Cobalt series.

They are great machines and a fantastic ride quality. The Toro is a good machine too, does it have the separate hydro and pump motors AND filter for the hydro? That's an important thing for longevity.

Wish you well, in your selection and decision.

This is on the spec sheet--Transmission Hydro-Gear® ZT2800® w/ charge pumps

All of there ZTs and lawn tractors set outside -in the elements no sun, rain protection.
For that kind of $$ I`m not buying rust as an add on.

Mike,

The spec for the IS500 has separate pumps and wheel motors, the IS700 may have gone to an integrated unit.

In any event, yes it doesn't matter if you are spending $1K-$5K-$10K for a new machine, it should be rust free.

Have fun with your new machine and post some pics and lawn too!

He really likes his. He knows a lot about equipment. He takes care of 14 farm tractors. His cuts very well and he has a couple of very steep hills he mows with it. For a zero turn it's one of the best that I have seen mowing steep hills.
