I need to refab new fenders pretty soon and looking for ideas. Current fenders are 1/4" x 10" plate, squared off. Thinking of using 10" channel this time. have to fix the cracked frame and then new fenders go on. Should a be a good project for my 16yr old to cut his teeth on and learn some welding fab skills. Wow!! 1/4" x 10" is some heavy fender material. Do they need to be that thick? 1/4 x 10 channel will be a little heavier due to the extra material. That's gotta be over a hundred pounds per fender.
If you want standard fenders you can buy replacement fenders from Northern Tool or any number of trailer stores. Northern has them for $40 - 65.depending on which type.

I dont want the standard fenders. I want something I can hook tie-down straps/chains too and set round hay bales on when hauling bales 2 rows wide down the trailer. I have set 8' wide frames and other material on top of the fenders I have now, the heavy fenders give me more options on what I can haul and how I can tie a load down. I have gone to a low prfile 16" 10 ply tire on the trailer and can now lower the fenders down some which will give me more clearance when hauling skid mounted buildings. Its worth the extra weight to me to have the heavy fenders, plus dont have to worry about them getting dented up when loading from the side with forklift/tractor.

That is a neat rig! Combo flat bed and cattle hauler!! I built one years ago when I couldn't pay ateention must less buy a trailer. I later added cattle sides to nake a conbo rig and uxxed it for years.

As far as fenders, You could buy heavy tread ones from a traily supply like Quality Trailer or make them. You can buy steel plate any thickness or size and buld them yourself. Either way- good looking rig

called jeep fenders.

cut the rolled lip off the front and bend up some 1" tube or 1.5x1.5 angle etc as support for the edges.... supports the weight and can be used as tie down points.
