I haven't used the FEL much at all yet and would like a response from somebody that may have done this. I would like to add a 15x30' parking area adjacent to my driveway. Using a B3030 and LA403 FEL will I be able to excavate the top 8"? I know that the dipping depth of the FEL is a limitation but I figured that once I drove onto an area that's maybe 3" lower I could cut out the next 3" and so on. Does this tractor/loader have enough grunt to do this, would I be better off to run the tiller through this area to soften things up a bit first, or...? I tried searching and didn't find anything about this - maybe I'm search-challenged. Thanks in advance.

I see you have a "box blade"?? With it and the FEL I wouldnt hesitate at all cutting out that size of a "patch". Set the ripper teeth down on it as much as you can pull...??...scoop out first with the FEL and then drag that box blade over it to loosen the first cut deeper and go back with the FEL.

I have to use a small set of discs to "soften up" the dirt when I want to go very deep...but a "dirt chopper upper is a dirt chopper upper" !

Nothing wrong in using the tiller of course!

I don't see a problem other then you might be done to soon and what will you want to dig up next?

I agree with Sully. Your box with rippers should be able to break up the ground enough where you could use either the FEL or your BB to remove a nice even layer.

I would think you would be fine as long as you took small bites. Your owners manual should cover this technique with the loader.

one technique that I have used in the past to quickly take out a laywer of soil is to first plow the area which will get down to 12 inches or so and then use the FEL to scoop it up and transport. If you already have a plow that will be easy to do

PSDX,

You can also use the F.E.L. bucket in "Float" to level the area if the soil is not really super hard to relocate the soil to another area.
