Last night I finally was able to engage the float on the Fel. Up till now every time I tried to engage the tractor would rise up like a bucking bronco. The trick was to lightly touch the reverse as you try to engage, that took off the forward pressure.

Good morning

I do not understand your statement " the trick was to lightly touch the reverse as you try to engage".

Float is a function of the loader arms and has nothing to do with the motion of the tractor. I often engage or disengage float while while driving forwards. It is a matter of what I want the bucket to do.

To engage float you quickly and forcefully snap the bucket control level forward.

Good luck

By getting the tractor to go back stopped it rearing up

Good morning again

Try snapping the bucket control forward quickly, that should allow you to engage float while being still.

I have master the Float... after a few digs on the doing it though, it just takes a slow hand but on a cold day that is hard, when I am cold I make all kinds of noises and mistakes on my 4310, I wish they had snow in FL and then at least I be warm plowing.

Good morning,

It sounds to me like your trying to engage float when your bucket is already on the ground, that will cause some lifting and bucking if you don't do it fast enough.

Try to do it with the bucket three feet off the ground , this way it will just drop smoothly, works for me.

I had a similar problem with my 4600 FEL. A minor adj. to the link arm(s) resolved all issues, just a thought.

The trick is to practice with the tractor turned OFF.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only stupid one in not being able to get the float to work without rearing up the tractor. Now, I regularly do it. Just pop it into float with the FEL about a foot off the ground. Just removed driveway snow with it yesterday morning. Wife remarked how quickly I did it this time, and it was our biggest snowfall here in 5 years.

The curl works fine when in float. I used it to adjust the bucket level most of the time. Seems the bucket kept wanting to tilt down too much.

Thats great advice John.
I just tried that with my boom blade and it works great. The arms just slowly move to the ground. What a time saver!!
