FEL cylinder rebuild

We used the orange filler but there was a bit of rust build-up that caused resistance. Unfortunately we had pushed the top cap farther into the cylinder than we had to, looking for a sharp sided snap ring groove, instead of a shallow tapered groove.
We first tried to pull the rod by hand while holding the cylinder anchored on the bench. Then we tried to blow it out with air pressure but with the seal on the piston gone we couldn't build enough pressure fast enough to pop it.
We then anchored one end to a truck and tried to use a winch on an ATV. Just dragged the two-up unit accross the yard. Finally we rigged it between two trucks and applied gentle pressure. Out it came.
If this had been a paying job for a customer who expected a warrantee, we would have replaced ALL the parts (and recommended doing both cylinders) but now that we know the way these come apart we decided to just fix the problem. If another problem shows up in a month or a year we will solve it then. Will only be an inconvenience, not a income earning machine down for a day.....
