The bucket on our Kubota 7040 will rotate downward when you have it lifted for a prolonged period of time. What is causing this? Is it a leaking seal?

All FEL's will settle over time. The control valve does not have seals on the spools. They are close tolerance fit. Fluid will leak by when left under pressure. Should be very slow (several hours) drop. If fast then you have another problem.

IF it is the bucket cylinders it could be the valve, or the seals in the cylinders.

To tell which it is, raise it about a foot off the ground and put a floor jack under the edge of the bucket. You are using this to relieve pressure in the hydraulics. Unhook the couplers going to the bucket and lower the jack but dont pull it out from under the bucket.

IF it still rotates downward like before, the issue is the cylinders. If the problem stopped, it is the valve. Now use the floor jack again to take pressure off the loader so you can re-attach the couplers

It is probably a combination of both the cyl seals and the valve.

If the cyl are leaking, a seal kit may help.

If the valve is leaking, you have to live with it or replace the valve.
