Will a Kubota L 3901 tractor lift a 18" concrete retainer approx. 1000 lbs with loader or backhoe ? don't have the tractor yet .

What height are you lifting to? On the Kubota's, the front end loader model number is the KG lifting capacity at the bucket pivot point. In reality, with the bucket on, your capacity is probably more like 850 LBS. The L3901 and it's loader are a little anemic IMO.

L3901 Loader "may" lift " approx. 1,000 pounds" but perhaps only to 4" height. You could not load or unload barriers from a truck nor trailer.
In order to lift "approx. 1,000 pounds" you would require the Backhoe or around 550 pounds counterbalance mounted on the Three Point Hitch.

A 2,800 pound bare weight L3901 would be minimally stable.
You could transport the load only over hard, level, smooth surface without danger the tractor might roll over.
Any bouncing of the load would put transient strain on Loader hydraulic lines.

Lifting "approx. 1,000 pounds" with a L3901 Backhoe is impractical. You would have to use straps or chains for attachment, so the Backhoe would commence the lift fairly high, where lifting capacity is already reduced.

Safer to consider a 3,700 pound bare weight Kubota model from the MX series, with an amply powerful Loader, bigger wheels, bigger/wider tires and wider wheel stances.

Thank You for the good information. I will just prepare the ground for the retainers max height 4' maybe able to get the delivery truck close enough to properly place them.

The loader will probably do it with adequate ballast. The backhoe won’t. I’ve had 3 backhoes one tractor mounted one and 2 construction backhoes. In every case the loader lifts twice as much as the backhoe.

Take bucket off and just use the loader frame to lift
Bucket hast weight 300 to 500 pounds

Plus lifting closer to cylinders so you have more picking power

1. If barriers are picked up with chains or straps, the Loader will be fairly high when load is applied, reducing lift capacity. Load swing is a potential calamity to a 2,800 pound standard L series, even ballasted.

2. If load becomes unbalanced on the frame, potentially expensive repairs of the Loader are possible.

While I am not going to take time to research the exact weight of a standard L series bucket, it weighs <300 pounds.

Forks are the likely attachment to lift barriers. Pallet forks weight 200 - 300 pounds, which has to be added to the barrier weight.

SAFETY FIRST.

That’s only half true. The chain keeps the load at the pins vs sticking out on forks.

Photo is of me on my former L3200 with a "1,200lbs" bale on the forks. Loaded R4s, a 5' rotary cutter on the back & maybe 100-200lbs of crap stacked on the back of the cutter for lots of ballast. Even then it was sketchy as ****. The back end was barely staying on the ground. I could lift most to 4-5' or so. I never did that again after finishing up helping my friend with those bales.

The loader on the economy Ls isnt weak if the pressures are on spec. The weight of the machine is the weak spot. On my new L4060HSTC the hydraulics stop before anything else. Feels solid & stable even with minimal ballast on the back at max loader lift. IMG_8896.jpg
