FarmTrac 545 DTC
I need to remove and clean (i.e. throw it into the trash) the suction screen on the hydraulic system of my FarmTrac 545 DTC. I have removed the 4 bolt cover on the left side of the hydraulic fluid sump, and drained the fluid. I can see the suction tube which is suppose to contain the screen, but I am not sure how to remove it. Can anyone tell me how to remove that screen? I believe it is plugged up and causing my hydraulics not to work properly.

Some time back (when Farmtrac was in the all other brands section) there was a post by SESS whose family had a dealership in Florida about some of the Indian made Farmtracs having a problem with sliming of the hydraulic oil and plugging the suction strainer. I do not think I would remove the strainer, but would clean it and change all of the hydraulic and transmission oil. I am not sure on the Farmtrac, but on some similar Fords it is necessary to remove the hydraulic cover on top of the differential to service the suction strainer.

The problem ended up being the (heart shaped) oring that seals between suction and discharge of the hydraulic pump (internal to the pump). I scavanged an oring off of a Ford hydraulic pump and it worked like a champ.
