Farmtrac 45 fuel pump replacement

Good morning everyone. I am new to the site and there seems to be a wealth of information here. I tried doing a search but was unable to find what I needed so I'll just ask.
I have a neighbor with a 2005 farmtrac 45. It was running fine when they shut it down and when they went to use it again it would not start. They had someone FINALLY come out and look at it and they said it was a bad fuel pump. Now the guy keeps coming up with excuses as to why he has not been back. Are these pumps that difficult to replace or hard to get? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with that tractor BUT, many will have a Lift Pump (low pressure) and then the Injector Pump (high pressure).
There should be a Solenoid at the injector pump that turns fuel off and on with the key.
That's where I would look for the problem. They do get sticky/weak and fail to open.

Randy, go have a look at it.. if its what I'm thinking it is.. its SIMPLE.. 3, 10mm nuts & washers holding it on..
I probably has a hand primer on it too..
That "may be" the problem but I seriously doubt it.. it sounds like the guy didn't know what he was doing??

If you google "farm trac 45 injection pump".. go look at the pictures.. the "lift pump" is bolted to the SIDE of the injection pump.

Here's a pic. It is definitely a bad pump, $1850. Broke all the lines loose and hand primed it. Fuel shot out where line comes out of filters but not from lines going to injectors coming out of the top of the pump. Is there a rebuild kit for this pump?

Looks like a major teardown to get it out.

Randy.. that's an EASY ONE to diagnose.. I can tell you what the problem is before you put a wrench on it..
I've only rebuilt a thousand of'm..
The control rack is stuck in the shut off position due to a lack of oil inside the pump & its rusted..
Make sure the stop cable/lever is moving on the backside of the pump..
Remove the side cover, 4 or 5mmm allen wrench.. now push/pull the shut off.. anything move?? ofcourse not, its rusted.. lol
You'll probably have to grind down a 17 or 19mm wrench, inorder to remove the hand primer before you can get to the one sd cvr screw.

I can walk u thru removal of the inj. pump..
I've rebuilt thousands of them for ALOT LESS than 1800.00.!!!!

You do know that fuel wont spit out the lines on top of the pump UNLESS the engine is spinning, don't ya??
Use the HPrimer to get fuel UP TO the inj. pump THEN spin the engine..
Sorry if that sounds silly but ya never know, how some people think it works.. I've seen worse.. believe me..

Let me first say I am not a diesel mechanic. No sir I did not know that but now I think about it, it is gear driven. Guess you could call me a Google mechanic. Lol. Ive been able to save alot of $ working on my old kabota that way and I'm still learning. Thanks for your offer to help. Be alot better if I had the tractor here and not sitting in a field but if you are willing to help I'm willing to give it a shot. Dont think the neighbor would mind.
