I am going to buy a skidding winch for my JD 3320 and it has come down to the Farmi 351P and the Wallenstein FX65. My local dealer has quoted me $3955 for the Farmi, including 3 sliders and 3 chokers. The Wally is quoted just $150 less. With so little difference between the quotes, I am leaning towards the Farmi given it's bullet-proof reputation but I would love to hear from others. One other question is, does either model provide a way to carry chokers or other gear?

Either winch should be great but I would go with Farmi just because I have one and it has treated me good.
Each tractor is different. Figureing out how to carry stuff can be a challenge. My method is crude but works. I put a cross piece between the ROPS posts supporting a shelf across the fenders. Holds two saws, fuel, and a crate for tools, wedges, tape, etc. I carry the chokers and snatch blocks on the winch.

both winches should be great. i have heard alot about farmi and some about wallenstine. wallenstien makes other wood/forestry equipment, i don't know if farmi makes anything other then the winch. my friend has a wallenstien and he likes it. i have a fransgard v-3507 and just love it. it is a 7000 lb pull capacity with a 2 to 5 feet per second pull speed. i spent around $3700 for mine new. would buy another in a split second if i had too. like i said farmi or wallenstien would be great. i would go with what one had the better parts availability and service. since most winches are just about "bullet proof", buy the one you feel you want more. the only difference i have noticed in 3ph winches is that the norse winches are lighter built then the other 3 mentioned. other then that, they are just about the same. i bought the fransgard because my kubota dealer sells them. like the looks of it better then the others, but that is just me. pick one and enjoy. just stay safe. NO side pulls! pull/winch in as straight of a line as you can. bad things can happen fast if you aren't paying attention.

as for carring chains and stuff, the picture in one of the previous post is about is good as you are gonna get on a tractor. i carry my chains/chokers on the winch hooks and all my other gear in the loader bucket. enjoy whichever one you pick.

When i can afford one i'm going with a walenstein , i like the trailering ability with the fx65 . I'll have a nice little train going , i take my splitter in with my trailer . both are great attachments .

If Wallenstein's winch quality is anything like their chipper quality, then it will be top notch.

They use actual plate steel, vs. just sheet metal, good quality welds, etc. Across the board on their chipper. I was firmly impressed.

i have the farmi 351p also..very well built and rugged...carry chokers and snatch block on the two hooks which are located on the side of the winch..this winch saves quite a bit of time by using the sliders and winching trees u can't get close to.

I just bought a new 351P for my 3038. Price was $3500 plus all our Canadian taxes! Did not come with chokers, but they are just $19 ea at Mardens. Works great. Simple.
