Farmall A and Sickle Bar Mower

I have a 1941 Farmall A which I would like to help cut hay with for a friend down the road. We has IH 7ft drawbar mounted sickle bar that I could buy. I know this seems huge for the little A with 16 hp on the drawbar. The mower came on a H Farmall with 24 drawbar HP. Is it possible to cut hay on flat ground with his mower?

Sure, no problem. My Farmall Super A has a 6.5 ft mid mount sicklebar mower and 16 hp pto, same as yours. Mowing hay with that 7ft sicklebar is no problem--you have to adjust the tractor's ground speed according to how heavy the hay crop is planted to keep from clogging the mower.

Thank you for the reply. He has some hilly land but I will stay on the flat. He uses a Ford 8n and 501 sickle bar that can be used on the hills. I might just have to fix up the old IH mower.
