Hello everyone! This my first post. I am purchasing a Farm Pro 2430 tractor. All of the specs. you see on this tractor say that the engine HP is 30. However I have been told by several different people that this is the pto hp and that the engine hp is more. I know this is true on the grey market tractors but not sure here. Does anyone know for sure what the true engine hp on the 2430 is? Thanks, Tom

Gray market tractor horsepower rating is inconsistent. Some PTO hp, some engine HP, some drawbar HP. So whoever you were talking to was 1/3 correct.

Every Chinese tractor that I'm familiar with rates engine output in kilowatts at the 12 hour rate. Some advertisers may be better at math than others. But generally this converts to engine horesepower. Subtract 14 % for estimated PTO horsepower, and 14% from PTO horsepower for estimated drawbar HP.

Hey Tom,

There is only one way that I know of to know for sure what the HP is on the engine. Pop the hood and copy down the information on the engine Plate, that is on the engine. You may have to convert the KW into HP, but that is no big problem.

I would trust the data on he Engine Plate above anything else.

Good questions have you figured anything out yet i have 28HP or atleast its suppose to be a 28HP i just bout a week ago and what got me to wandering is the dealer told me if I noticed the epa tag on the side it would say 25 hp but that was just because thats the only tags the us sent them and that it was indeed a 28hp tractor so that got me to wandering and i looked and the oly thing my books listed was a 25 hp and below to top that off I looked at the tag on the top of the motor and converted the kw to hp and it came out to about 25 hp i need to find out quick if he sold me a 25 for a 28 if he did i need to start calling the better buisness burrow quick.

Hey ckain26,

The data on the engine plate is put on by the manufacturer of the engine.

That is the HP of your engine, Period. Anything else, Said, that is contrary, to the Manufacturer's stated HP, is just plain Horse Dung. IMHO.

Logical sense, says to me-- If the Engine could produce more HP, then the Manufacturer, would be very eager to say so, on the engine plate, as they would have a more powerful engine to market.

My 224, with a y380t engine was marketed to me as having 22hp. But it clearly states on the engine plate, that the Engine HP is very close to 20HP.

A lot of the dealers really don't know, or take the time to check out the Engine Plate, or else, they really don't want to know. I mean, if they don't know, then they can always say, "Well, That's what they told me the HP was".

Don't get me wrong though, I am very pleased with the performance of my little 224, and it seems to have very good pulling power, for the size tractor that it is.

The 25 and the 28 are the exact same engine but the 28 gets more hp by tuning the timing of the injectors (I believe that's what I heard) It has to do with the rpm's that the engine is operating which gives you more output. Mine is the 284 LE and a friend has the 254. I doubt if you could tell the difference between the two, they do have lots of power compared to other brands-no matter what the actual hp is. IMHO

It is also my understanding between to 25 and 28 hp's....... the 28hp has just been tuned a little finer to squeeze out 3 more ponys. Just my opinion.

Tom, The hp plate on the engine doesn't mean a whole lot. If the tractor does what you expect it to do, that's the important thing. In the old days (dark ages) tractors were rated at how many plows or width of tilling equipment they would pull - 2 bottom 14" or a 5 bottom 16" plow. To make a long story out of this, if you had a 100 hp tractor(familiar with the green ones) and you were able to pull big or heavy tillage equipment through the field using 4-6 gallons of fuel per hour at 3-31/2 mph, and if you found yourself or the tractor down shifting to a lower gear (we're talking about diesel - not gasoline tractors), you would take it in to your local dealer, and they would put the PTO on a dyno (an old time diagnostic machine) and monitor the exhaust, fuel injector pressure, an the crank case blow by of the pistons. They could tell if the rings were worn out (blow by), and if there were any soft injectors firing too soon. They also monitored the exhaust port temperature to make sure it was up to specs.
The punch line is , if you really want to know the horse power, take it to a dealer that has a dyno, and have them put it on the dyno to check it out.
On a good strong engine they can pop the seal on the injector pump, and turn up the pressure to give you 10 % more horse power. Voids warranty, and shortens engine life, but you may gain an extra gear speed.- Might be worth it, but I was never a believer in it. My "green dealer" says that these engines properly maintained and not abused were good for 3000 hours before an overhaul. Yugo

Only the 25HP is available EPA certified. So a 284 that is EPA certified will have a 25HP engine. At least one Jinma 354 that I have seen had a 25HP lable, it was imported when up to 25HP was still legal without TPEM...
The engine in the Farm Pro 2430 is 30HP at 2000 rpm. the same engine produces 35HP at something like 2300 rpm (no book handy now). Since the 30HP will do 2300 rpm I wonder what HP it produces at that rpm. (I would bet about 35).

The EPA certified TY395 is available in both 30 and 35HP variants, there is a lot of stuff on these engines to meet EPA, more on the 35HP than the 30.

Keep in mind often the Chinese HP is a 12hour duty rating, not peak developed as is often quoted by others.

The engine plate HP. Is that gross or Net engine HP ?
