MY TC40D is now almost 12 years old. Over the last couple of years something has been changing in that the fan has begun to hit the radiator plastic shroud. Can't really seem to see what may be causing it as either the engine/fan would have had to have moved or the radiator moved. Both are bolted to the frame. Maybe if the frame up front has moved/bent, but that would affect the front-axle pivot, so I don't think so. Plus, I've never hit anything that could cause such an impact.

Any ideas! Anyone else experiencing this? I didn't hear anything, but frequently blow of the dust, seeds, etc from the radiator and began noticing the tips of the fan a bit messed up.

Duane, sometimes when I have load in the loader and go over rough terrain, I hear my fan touching the shroud on my TC45D also. Several people reported similar problems back in the early 2000s, but I haven't heard of problems with the DA models. I suspect it's just the fan is mounted to the engine and the radiator to the frame allowing tiny amounts of flexing that are just enough to bring the blades into contact with the shroud. Not sure. . . .

Just throwing out some ideas:

How many hours are on your tractor? Since you said you didn't notice it when it was new could it be that a bearing is now starting to fail and your fan shaft is wobbling?

Can you determine what part of the shroud the fan is hitting? top, bottom, right or left sides. This might indicated the direction of movement.

Hope you are able to find the culprit and let us know when you do.

I had the radiator rblt when I had it out to replace he hydro pump drive on my Case 580C. The radiator shop straightened out all the shrouds, mounts etc., and when I put the rad back in, noticed that the fan blade was "ticking" on the shroud. I think everything had gotten bent a little, and moved a little over the years, and when I put it back in the proper plane, I discovered that the front engine mount was just about completely shot, allowing the front of the motor to drop enough to allow this to happen. Check your motor mounts, especially if they have had an oil bath.
