fabricating skid plates

I have a JD 4600 that is in need of skid plate protection. Has anyone made up their plates or know of a good commercial source? WHat I saw at the dealer did not cover the center portion of the tractor. To me that looked like it could cause more problems if a hard stick wedged between the plate and the center of the tractor. Maybe the dealer stuff would work if I added a plate to cover the center area.
I am open to any suggestions. Thanks.

One of the guys I hang with just did a job of building one for a new tractor. Plus complete cage for the operator. Rather nice job, but I don' think he plans on doing it for a living.
The tractor was purchased to do some very rough cutting, bushhog style, and needed the extra protection.
Good luck, it took him a week to do it.
