hmm.. 4.5 loaded at 55 or 9 with a lil less load.

Methinks the diesel might have faired better on that load. I see also it was a srw.

interesting.

I guess I'll stick with my old 7.3psd's.. 4.5mpg happens at about 75mph ona heavy load.

I do have a big air scoop on top to help with wind though..

I thought I might be missing out with hearing some of the talk on the gasser v10... that thread made me feel a whole bunch better..

thanks

My uncle has had 3 of them. 2 F-250's one with 3.73 and one with 4.10's His current one is a 05 F-350 SRW and its got 4.30 gears. He gets about 8mpg pulling 14,000#.

SRW or DRW will not make any real difference. All the DRW V-10 can only be had with 4.10 or 4.30 gears though, no 3.73's.

Everyone seems to say that the V10 gets the same 8-9 mpg loaded to the hilt or unloaded. Perhaps my memory is foggy...

I was looking at another forum where a guy was complaining about his V10 DRW getting poor mileage when he was towing his load. Come to find out he was tandem pulling a 5th wheel with a 20+ boat. Power was there, and I think he was getting 4-5 mpg. But that is to be expected. I get 10 around town, and 8-9 moving what ever I have on back. I can squeeze 14 empty on the highway.

Not really the same but I have a 35 ft class A winnebago with the ford v10
get 9 not towing 6 towing 7000lb 24ft boat. seems to like 60 mph for best economy.

My '08 has never done worse than 12 mpg unloaded, and that is mostly all back roads, but not congested area driving and not steady highway speeds. Of course, I have a regular cab with 6 speed manual, so It's probably the most efficient 4wd V-10 package one can assemble, save for the 4.10 gears. And I don't hesitate to press that right pedal and get a big smile on my face.

Edited to clarify that I'm describing an F-250 SRW.

I run a 99 F250SD, 4x4, 5 speed.165k miles. Normal out of town, mountian driving, empty, 12-14 mpg, off the mountian, freeway@65mph, 12-14mpg, with a trailer last week, 16 ft/3 axle with about 4000lbs, @ 65mph about 11mpg. 3 horse gooseneck with horses about 9-10 mpg. I'm fairly pleased.
