My steering went belly up. I tore down the steering, what a mess.

Here you can see the bearings gave out. There was some water in the grease. If I had it to do over again I would have cleaned out the grease in the gear box when I first got the tractor.

You can see where the bearing race has been chipped.

Just another random shot.

I put the brass fitting back together . HoyeTractor is sending me the new bearings for the steering shaft. I am hoping I can get this working without having to buy a new steering rod and brass assembly. I think the shaft assembly is about $200 bucks.

Anyone ever successfully put the brass fitting back together???

I'm in the process of repairing my YM2000 now. Fortunately, my steering only got stiff and I traced it to the box before I had any problems other than worn out bearings. I've heard that it's difficult to get the balls in the shaft gear to work properly once they're pretty worn. Good luck!

Got my parts in Friday.

Friday
Started putting the mess back together. I have been able to steer while the front end is off the ground. Wanted to be able to set the steering left to right without any pressure.

Saturday
Spent a few hours putting all the body molding back on. Didn't get finished before dark but almost.
