I have a heavy 60" Befco finish mower that I use with my NH TC24D and when transporting the deck in the up position, the front end of the tractor gets very light. Combine that with very hilly property and I have popped a few wheelies with the tractor, even in low gear. So I figured I needed some weight up front. I didn't want suitcase weights in the front of the tractor because my garage space is limited and adding another 10" to the front of the tractor didn't seem like a great idea. And the cost seemed a bit much for a chunk of dead weight.
I picked up the EZ Weights brackets earlier this summer because I like the idea, but I could not fit standard 25" barbell weights inside the wheels without bending the valve stem. I got some 9.5" steel bar stock, sliced off 1 pieces 1.5" thick, drilled 1" holes in them and mounted two slices on each of the front wheels. The pieces weigh in at just about 25# so I have 100 pounds of weight added to the front wheels.
I accomplished the goal of keeping the mower deck from lifting the front end. I did not increase the overall lenght of the tractor. And the wheel weights and assemblies only increase the width of the front end by a couple of inches overall, which is still narrower than the width of the rear track.
