I have started looking for a good used UTV. Because of physical problems I like the totally flat floor the EZ0GOs have. Found an 2001 EZ-GO WorkHorse 1200 today with a cab/cage. Story is that it came from a golf driving range and was rigged for picking up golf balls. That means that it was driven by kids with no sense. It looked OK but I have not driven it. Asking price is $2200.

Anyone have any experience good or bad with this model. I want it for my wife to move around our place of 20 acres, sandy, with mild grades.

Comments please or tips on what to look for since I have no experience with these.

Vernon, I'm not familiar with the WorkHorse 1200. I have a WorkHorse ST-480 that has been great. I bought it new in April 2002 and have not had the first problem with it.

Some friends purchased used EZGO gas golf carts that have had larger tires and "lifts" installed, along with dump beds. They have had good luck with theirs also. One advantage of the used golf carts is the price is much less than a new WorkHorse.

Hey Vernon, How are you doing?

I bit the bullet and went the cheap route. I bought a 10 year old EZ GO electric cart. It is really clean with ATV tires and lift kit installed. Price was reasonable, $1200. Although it does need new batteries soon (which are $300-500 depending on which brand you get), I'm pretty happy with it so far. I hope to get new batteries in 2-3 months. The guy I bought it from does it as a side hobby and he lives in Conroe area. I was told the guy in Bryan has good prices too on his used carts. We have 26 acres and I can run around pretty good for about 20-30 minutes no problem. After it starts dying, I can let it sit for 30 minutes and get another 20 minutes use out of it. I think new batteries last for about 1 1/2 hours of continuous usage before needing recharge. PM me if you want the guy's number...Kyle

Vernon, I'd just go give the 1200 a test drive. If it starts from being cold/cool and runs okay without smoking, you can't really go wrong for $2200. You also might look for fluid leaks, but being reliable and easy to operate and maintain is a big issue with me. Make sure the brakes work, too.

That's about all I can quickly think of. Good luck! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jim

Thanks. I will go drive it today or tomorrow and look it over carefully. My wife would like to have one like it but just doesn't want to put out the money but I think she is coming around just like she did about the new Kubota.

Well I bought it. Got it for $2100 including a spare tire. It is a little rough with some wiring work needed and probably need clutch work within the year but those should not be difficult. I am used to doing my own repairs.

Also one cage door needs the latch fixed. The first thing I will add will be lights but that should be easy.

I appreciate all the comments and messages.

If it has a golfball cage, does that mean you can drive it in a hailstorm? ...with golfball or larger hail? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Don't think that i will try it in a hail storm. The top is only translucent white plastic. A golf ball would probably ricochet off but large hail would come through.

Will order a service manual tomorrow so I know what I am doing and then put a new belt on it. They are not expensive. Our Boxer did not want to get in the first time but after a trip down to the mail box and back she seemed to enjoy it.

My wife remarked that now we can go driving through the brush without getting hit in the face with limbs and stickers.

I will take pictures as soon as we get a decent day again.
