Yes, and thinking of putting a 1/2" plate behind it. And before that was this...

and their slogan is/was.... "one top cat"? maybe doesn't apply on attachment :confused3:. But I still love my tractor as I can't do my projects without it....

I can't tell the size of the box tube, but you know what I think I'd do? Take some 4 x 4 x 1/2-inch structural angle iron, cut rectangular holes in it for the shanks to fit in, and weld the angle to the box tube.
Adjust the size of the angle iron to fit the box tube. Maybe 4 x 6 x 1/2-inch would work better?

Brad please don't take me wrong! I'm not saying 3RRL's design for a fix is wrong, but one thing that jumped out at me when I opened the link, was the HAZ around all that welding of his gussets!
One of the biggest mistakes us hobby weldors make when designing a project / fix is over welding. If you talk to or work around engineers, their attitude is less welding, let the material do the work.;)

What do you mean by HAZ. If you are refering too all the smoked up areas, I suspect inadequant cleaning up and paint removeal as the culprit. And Yes, I am as guilty of over welding as the next guy, (maybe even more so). I think the mindset is we dont want anybody saying the piece broke because our welds where weak.

Hi Shield Arc,
I guess you are saying there will be a big HAZ? I'm pretty sure in that pic the majority of dark areas are where he power brushed the paint off since the parts are just tacked in place at that stage. I know he did it a long time ago and used the heck out of it since, and it didn't shrink the beam enough to affect the operation of his over-the-top scarifier lifts. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/hydraulics/77667-gear-driven-hydraulic-scarifier-system.html

What I liked about his solution was that it improved support for the rippers to help prevent them from bending or breaking by reducing the unsupported length. It might be better to extend the gussets the full width of the beam in NOTV8's case but either way there's no way the peel failure would happen with those extended supports.

Brad I really liked his design too. But without being there to see the whole picture, like the mass of the beam, and other things I just had concerns about all the welding of the gussets to the beam, in most situation like this the HAZ can be a problem. I'm no engineer, and just a hobbyist weldor now. Back in the day 99% of my welding was from blue prints where an engineer did all the thinking for me. Sometimes we would even get weld sequence!
