I remember that stuff too, how about Gentian Violet, more good stuff that you can't get anymore. Dad used to dust the tobacco with Paris Green and he'd tie a handkerchief over his nose and face so he didn't breath that stuff, like the cloth would filter it out of the air.
As far as the gas in the house, that was before AC when screen doors was the only cooling and we just stayed out of the house till it evaporated leaving a nice shiny slick floor. I look back and wonder how all of us nine kids survived, lots of good memories. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm pretty sure you can still get genetian violet in ag/farm supply stores. Look for spray cans of 'blue-coat' wound dressing for cattle, or pump bottles of hoof treatment for thrush/white line disease for horses. Main ingrediant is genetian violet... will stain skin and clothes though.

Heck.. I use more hore antiseptics thatn human stuff. 95% of the time if I get hurt.. it's in the barn or on the farm.. I just walk over to the shed and spray some iodine soap and wash the wound down, and then hit it with some scarlex spray ( scarlet oil ), wrap it with some vet-wrap and go.

I once tried an expirement.. I tested 'human' antiseptics against 'animal' antiseptics. I got my arms a bit torn up while working in blackberies and with some acacia trees. On the left arm, I used regular povidone iodine, and neosporin ointment. On the right arm, I used the iodine soap, and 3 different horse antiseptics in 3 different spots. Scarlex oil in one area, furazone ointment in one area, and nolvasan in one area.

The next day I did a 'look' over. Left arm looked ok.. though a spot or two had gotten red. On the right arm.. no red. Areas where furazone was used looked virtually closed over and healed. Nolvasan and scarlexed areas were 50% better than neosporin treated areas. Next day, right arm was completely closed over.. all scabbed. left arm was a day behind all in all.

I pretty much trust the animal antiseptics... heck.. horses are pretty fragile.. i figure if I'm using it on them.. it might as well kill germs on me too!
