I have an error 6 on a model 3720. Is there something I can do or must it go in for service?

Does your cruise work ok or do you have flashing symbol of a gear on the dash?
See my post on 8-13-11 and see if you have the same problem, my trouble was on a 2004 4720.

Right from the manual. :)

Err 06 MFWD Speed. No signal at MFWD speed input. No cruise function; Loss of performance. Contact your John Deere dealer.

I believe first I would check and make sure the MFWD sensor pigtail is plugged in. I talked to the service manager at our local dealer and he said that I could replace the MFWD sensor myself, but a word of caution as soon as you remove the sensor hydraulic oil will flow out of hole. I parked mine so as to lean away from the hole but oil was still above the sensor just make sure the new sensor has an o-ring on it and the old o-ring comes out with the old sensor. I don't think I lost over a few ounces of oil and could not tell any change on the dipstick.

I just crawled under the machine but kind of dark even with a flashlight. It will be a job tomorrow when the darn bugs are not out.

Did you see the picture from my earlier post "eHydro cruise problem" ?

I saw it but the bugs were eating me alive. I will check the wiring tomorrow to it. I am hoping thats it. Only 165 hours so far.

Mine did that with maybe only 15-20 hours on it. That damned horn was aggravating as ****. I shut off the keyswitch, then restarted the tractor. Error cleared, hasn't returned in the last 30+ hours. Apparent false alarm.

I have hoped that turning it off then back on may work but no such luck.

I'm going through an error 6 currently along with a couple others. Seems I bounced off the seat a few times and came back down with a foot on both pedals on my eHydro 3720. They cleared the codes but couldn't explain the error 6. The checked the connections and drove it around with the MFWD engaged but couldn't get it to replicate. I'm hoping mine doesn't reappear but if it does I'll likely insist they swap out the sensor though this time I'll have a camera ready to record the display. Still, I love this tractor.

My Error 06 eventually cost me over $500. It's a MFWD sensor, and must be a ***** to replace. Part was $85, the rest was labor. What really pissed me off is that - despite being part of the front drive - it's classed as "electronics". As such, there's only a one year warranty (as opposed to two years on the front drive mechanicals). Dealer refused to believe that it had been happening since the tractor had been 15-20 hours old. Moral of the story, don't wait - as I did - for it to eventually fail. Get it fixed in the first year of ownership.

Well, I ordered the tractor December before last and took delivery in June of last year. Since there's no a service record of the problem but they couldn't duplicate it, it seems to me that if it shows up again I'd expect them to replace it this time and in fact that's what we discussed when I left the dealership. The problem is my truck is down with a fuel leak and I won't be able to get the tractor out for a few weeks.

Edit: went by the service dept and he indicated it was a two year warrantee on the ENTIRE tractor - electrical included. Curious.

I've been told its a 2 year or 2,000 hour front to back warranty and a 3 year on powertrain......the 2 year covers everything except wear and tear parts.....bulbs, tires, belts....etc

My mistake; two year "bumper to bumper", and a third year power train only. Mine had just gone past the two year mark by a couple months. They declared that the MFWD sensor was electronic rather than mechanical, hence wasn't covered under the power train warranty. I'm not surprised they couldn't reproduce the Err06, but that doesn't mean it's not stored. I did not realize that the 3720 archives error/fault codes even after they're cleared from the instrument panel display. They told me that - during troubleshooting - they read several ERR06 and other unrelated codes. If I'd have known that at 15-20 hours, I'd have gotten them to investigate more aggressively - and likely saved myself that $526 bill.

And that's why I'm posting here. People in the community need to be aware of issues. Now, many of the codes are a result of buffoonery and incidental issues but the error 6? If it happens again, they'll have to explain how something other than a intermittently failing sensor is the problem.
