Epoxy Metal to Plastic Recommendations

PC7 is good stuff too. More of a filler than glue though it will glue stuff together.
Good for boat hull repair.

JB Weld would be my first thought as well. I wonder if Gorilla Glue would work?

Forget trying to stick anything together with the glue. Just go for the big sniff. After a couple minutes you won't care about anything. Works for me. Waaaa hoooo... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've had good luck with jbweld on all but ruberized plastics.. and some vinyl's.. though abs, and PVC are fine.

PC7 or PC-11 is an epoxy past that is also fairly tacky with plastics, as well as a few epoxy sticks that are plastic menders.. especially the ones for car battery repair.. they stick to some slick plastics.

Roughing up the surface doesn't hrt either..

clean well with alcohol or other residue-less solvent.

The JB Weld worked out real well, the plastic and magnet are one. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Another question for you all, I put some plastic wrap on the bottom of teh magnet to prevent the cab top from being scratched by the metal to metal contact. Any suggestions for a plastic coating for the magnet that will wear better then thin plastic wrap, but will let the magnet hold the strobe in place?

Try Plasti-Dip, I think that is the name. Home Depot sells it, in the tool coral. It is used to dip tool handles in to replace the coating on plier handles, and I have used to put a rubber-like plastic coating on my file handles. I think it is about $6.00 a can. You can even thin it a little if you need to brush it on.

Better yet.. those companies that make the plastic dip and plasti-coat also make a spry application.. It's great for spraying the ends of closetmade shelving after cutting it with a bolt cutter. Sprays on decently thin.
My next choice would be appliance epoxy paint...

Sorry to bring back the dead, but if I would like to epoxy plexiglass to aluminum will the recomendations in this thread work?

You might try PC7.. I see displays of it in hardware stores. Usually a bottle cap is glued to a penny, that is then glued halfway into a blob of epoxy stuck on a sodaa bottle.. that is epoxeyed to a brick or something like that.

For what it is worth.. I haz jb-welded a small brass hinge to a piece of plexiglass at work to make a swing open cover for some electronic gear. It's holding so far. ( You might try to add a few ridges or rough up the p-glass where you epoxy it..

You have to look hard, for all stores do not carry it, but there is a type of epoxy made specifically for plastics. It goes by the name of Plastic Mender or Plastic Bond. I think 3M has a product also. It is a two-part compound that chemically reacts like epoxy, but usually smells much worse. Also, usually the set is pretty short, like 5 to 10 minutes. It bounds plastic to plastic very well and plastic to metal. It remains a little more flexible than most epoxies, which seems to make it even more suitable for plastic. If a store carries it, it will be with the epoxies. I've used JB weld with some success, but it does not compare to the products suited specifically for plastic.

pc-7 will most likely work but it does have a long dry time.(24 hours) This could be good or bad depending on if you want to use it soon. But if it is mix right it is some strong stuff
