Yesterday I was out doing what I expect to be the last mowing of the year when the engine quit mid-mow. Now any time I engage the mid-PTO with the belly mower attached, the engine dies instantly.
I cleaned out any debris from the top of the mowing deck. Belt looks to be in good condition and no excessive play. The blades look OK and nothing obviously jamming them up from below. I removed and reinstalled the PTO collar onto the shaft to make sure it was on tight and connected properly. Thought about the seat safety switch maybe malfunctioning, but not sure how to check this to make sure it's not the issue?
Other details:
I'm going to be taking it in to the dealer for its 50-hour service pretty soon so I can always get them to look at it, but hoping there's something simple that I can try that I'm overlooking.

Other details:
- 50 hours on the tractor
- no issues up until yesterday when it suddenly quit
- nothing unusual about the mowing yesterday when it died
- blades move by hand although I wouldn't call it "freely"; frankly I've never paid any attention to how freely they moved in the past so I'm not sure if that's different or not
- was hard to start the other day so I stuck the battery on a trickle charger and it's starting fine now
- no other issues with tractor operation other than trying to use the mower
