where do most people run the rpm at, red arrow or full throttle on the governor? i have the ct 122 hst. it seems to have alot more power at full throttle but sounds like its too high to leave there all the time. will it shorten the life of the engine if at full throttle, burn too much fuel for nothing, throw a rod, etc?

The higher the RPM the more gross HP engine puts out. The optimum match of HP versus torque should be right around the PTO RPM (red arrow). Won't hurt the engine to run at full RPM, just burn more fuel if you don't need the extra power or speed. Does more harm to engine if running at low RPM and working it hard.

I normally work at 2000 RPM. PTO at the red arrow. Travel is at full throttle.

You will not hurt an engine by running at full throttle. Hurt comes more from not running engines on a regular basis and cold starts. One cold start will do more damage than 100 hrs of running.

That snow blower of yours will eat HP so run it up there. I run my blower, tiller, and mowers at 540pto rpm, other stuff is at needed rpm.
