Electronic hour meter

The original hour meter is broke on my JD tractor. How do the elec. hour meters work and is it something I could install myself?

I see from your profile that you have a 1530. Is this the tractor you are working on? If so then this tractor has a mechanical tach that is driven by a cable. If you are thinking of converting this to an electric tach, I suppose it could be done. Or do you want to just add another electric hourmeter and leave the original? Most hourmeters get a signal from the alternator to activate. Probably a kit from an auto parts store would have instructions.

Yes JD110, the JD 1530 is the tractor and the original hr. meter is mech. and broke all to ****. I was thinking that an elec. hr. meter would be easy to hook-up?
