Anybody ever try one of those electronic bug repellers? Northern has a bunch of them. Do they work? We have a real problem with biting horse flies this time of year. They come after everyone, especially sweaty people, which is everyone when it 90+ and humid out!

Danny,

The ones that operate at about 4000 volts and repells them into vapor when they get across the wires work/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

The sonic ones only work for the people build and sell them./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Danny,

My experience agrees with Twinkle Toes. The sonic thingys don't work. The ones with the big blue lights work real good, only problem is you don't want them close to picnic areas or food preparation areas as the exploding bug carcases can spray over a pretty good sided area (for something as small as an exploding bug carcass).

Well, there not electronic, but I've seen some very good reports on the "expensive" devices that run off a LP tank and create CO2 to attract the insects(flys, nats, skeeters) then suck them up into a fine net. They show on the local TV news, where they capture about a 16oz cup size of bugs in 24hrs. Mostly skeeters that I could see. People said that after using it for about 6weeks there wasn't a mosquitoe to be found in thier yard.
They run about $800

I am a service tech for bakeries , deli's , etc. and I'm sure that these puppies work well. The down side of these type units is that they ATTRACT the pests, much like the 'skeeter zappers that bring in moths etc. that otherwise may not even bother to visit your area. The upside is that the critters are stunned, and drop to a glue board(no exploding bugs and such). This one of many sites that you can get a bit of info from http://www.dineinpa.com/vectorflysystem.htm(you might want to go right to VECTOR).You can
probably check them out as most all supermarkets have them in their deli and bakery areas(Very unobtrusive, but if you look around, you'll spot them)
