Hi Folks, now that i have my posts in, ill be getting ready to put up the Hi-Tensile Wire. the plan is 3 rows of wire, the top 2 will be electrified, for Icelandic Horses.

the Paddock is irregular shape (more of an L than a Square), aprox 3 acres total, Straight runs are any where from 50' to 225' before you run into a corner.

here are my 2 questions.

1) how do you insulate and "Out Side" corner ? - I See inside corner insulators everywhere, no problem , but what do you use for the outside corners ?

2) how many "tensioners" do i need per Row of Hi Tensiler wire? 1) per row or 1 per straight run per row , or ? ---- i dont want to go overboard on the hardware here, but i also dont want to under club.

thanks for the help

Do you mean these?

Tensioners are more limited by corners than length of fence run. You can place them somewhere in the middle of a run rather than on one end say close to a gate. What you can do is tighten them a bit then work the wire towards them by walking along from an end point and pulling the wire away from two posts as you work your way back to the tensioners. Tighten some more and repeat as required.

With properly braced corners (you did brace them?) tensile usually stays pretty good once the posts take a set against the tension.

I would say depending on the amount of gates that you could get by with two sets.

I suspected those tubes would be what I'd use for the Outside corners, thanks

re the Tensioners thanks for the tips, yes i have braced all corners, gates, and the posts at the Crest of the hill, plus any changes in fence direction (even if its not a full 90 degree corner).

Dave,

If you do a little searching, there is a lot of free info on fencing on the net. That site that I sent you has some.

I suggest you also flag the wire so it is easy to recognize. Survey tape will work of course but you can find little plastic flags that clip on and last for a while. Those Icelandics are a lot calmer than my crazy arabs but tensile wire is what it is.

Yes, I agree, thanks for the tip, I've been reading alot on Fencing and pasture maintenance lateley. I do plan on some of the flags for sure. While the Horses are familiar with this type of fencing at their current location, i think its prudent to flag the wire in the new environment anyway.

we'll also be adding some of the Vynl Ribon as part of the top rail onthe outside of the fence as well, this will certainly give more visual queue that there is a fence there. Beforethat goes up the flags will help.
