ehydro vs power reverser

Just my opinion, but for compact and utility tractors the hydro transmission is hard to beat. The PR transmission come into their own in large open areas for field work and are slightly more efficient than the hydro tranny. Where the PR tranny excells is replacing a shuttle shift gear transmission. Most of us by a wide margin are operating utility or smaller sized tractors here and would be best served with the hydro.

For anyone moving a heavy pallet of materials on or off a truck, positioning the phd to drill a posthole, backing in and out while mowing at higher engine speeds the hydro is superior. Most people who think they prefer a PR transmission for small tractors haven't had a chance to get used to a e hydro transmission. I have had them all including powershift, non sycronized, sycronized, PR, and the 3 range e hydro now and I ain't going back.

I like the PR for spraying because I can pick a gear, set my RPM's and get my rate of chemical on right every time. With the hydro it is a guessing game as to whether or not I have my ground speed right. For example B4 with my PR at 1850 RPM's, at 20 psi on my sprayer gets me 10 gallon of chemical per acre. I don't have a speedometer on my tractor so I have no way to tell if my ground speed is the same every time with the hydro.

With an e hydro you can set the ground speed accurately in .1 mph increments and for spraying use the e pto with lower engine speed. Use the upgraded cruise for consistent results. The OP is looking at newer 4x20 machines which would have a speedometer.

Just my $.02, I have the PR on my 3520 and I love it. As I have said before I was looking at a 3320 with the hydro but got a killer deal on the 3520 with the PR. My neighbor next door has a 4120 with the hydro and I like it too and certainly there are situations where it is much better than the PR. However, that said, I really do like the PR. My kids have no problem driving it (they started when the youngest was around 9), as there is not much to it and it is easy to control.

My biggest fear with the hydro was longevity, but it appears that there is really little concern for that as I haven't read about too many problems on here with it. In any case, I am happy with the PR but might look at a hydro on the next tractor, assuming I don't bite the bullet and go to a much larger tractor. :)

Never used a PR, but I can say that I find no fault with the eHydro on my 3320.
