JD 4610 ehydro MFWD
Just in case anyone else is having this problem.

I have a JD 4610 with eHydro. Ever since I can remember it's had a funny sound when first started up. It's hard to describe this sound but I'd say it's between a squeal and a whistle.

Anyway... I had it to the dealer for some last minute warranty work (goes out in June) and told them to check it out. Seems JD had a PIP on this noise problem. They changed a poppet valve and it's as quite as can be.

He is correct! I've installed quite a few of these poppets in the eHydro's.

My PowerReverser sometimes makes a similar noise when I first start it up. Seems to be related to the 3PT hitch position, and always goes away once it warms up a little bit...

Also, has anyone else noticed the engine rpm dropping a little bit when you press hard on the brakes??

I just sent you some info that might help you.

My 4610 with PR makes the same noise when cold, and does the brake pedal thingy too. Also, if I stand on the platform the RPMs go up a bit until I step off. Kind of annoying, but I only have 50 HRS on it and really haven't poked around to see why it does that yet.

I don't know about the noise. My hearing is so bad that asking me about a noise is like asking Ray Charles what color something is. But, I have noticed that stepping hard on the brakes sometimes changes the engine rpm's.

So, what's the info? Come on, share with the rest of us.

For the large frame tractors 46,4710 this is the solution for the noise/whine.

Solution Number: 54621

Solution Summary: Squealing noise in the hydraulics at startup

Publication Date: Jun 4 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Paper copies of solutions may not be the most current solutions**

Complaint or Symptom:

Squealing noise in the hydraulic system at low rpm or at startup. The noise will go away if the engine speed is increased.

Problem or Situation:

There is a squealing noise in the hydraulic system and the noise is coming from the charge relief valve on the hydrostatic transmission.

Solution:

Replace of the charge relief valve poppet.

Click Here to See Charge Relief Valve location

1. Remove the MFWD drive shaft to gain access to hole on the bottom of the transmission. Reference B.

2. Have assistant insert arm through the hole (B) around the left hand side of the hydrostat.

3. Have assistant align the 3/8 ratchet and 1" socket that is inserted through hole (A) over the charge relief valve plug.

4. Remove the charge relief valve.

5. Once the valve is out of the transmission, remove the original poppet and discard. Install the new poppet and reinstall the charge relief valve using the same procedure.

Parts:

Poppet - LVU14595

Tools:

1" socket - 3/8

Standard 3/8 Ratchet

Here is the solution for the small frame tractors, 43/4410

Solution Number: 59318

Solution Summary: 4310 4410 Whining Noise coming From Hydraulic Traction Clutch “e-PRT”

Publication Date: Mar 28 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Paper copies of solutions may not be the most current solutions**

lution Number: 59318

Complaint or Symptom: Whining Noise coming From Hydraulic Traction Clutch “e-PRT”.

Problem or Situation: There is a whining noise coming from the hydraulic traction clutch housing when the transmission is in neutral. This noise has been determined to be coming from the lube pressure valve. This noise is more noticeable at idle and should go away when engine speed is increased. The noise is caused by the lube pressure relief valve, which is cast in to the clutch cover assembly. This ball and spring design valve allows the ball to oscillate in the bore causing the resonance.

Solution: There are two options for this issue:

1. The noise being heard does not affect the reliability of this clutch. The noise is more of a nuisance or an irritant to the customer than a functionality issue. The John Deere Dealer could explain to the customer that this noise is not a detriment to the reliability of the machine. If the customer does not accept this answer, step 2 can be followed.

2. If this issue concerns the customer and wants to have the noise eliminated, the tractor will have to be split and the clutch cover will need to be replaced. A new cover assembly with a redesigned lube pressure relief can be ordered from Parts.

Refer to Technical Manual 1985 for Repair procedure for splitting and replacing the clutch cover.

*This procedure should take approximately 6.5 hours

Parts:

New Clutch Cover – YZ81465

Additional Information:

Tractors above the following serial number break have the new cover installed:

LV4310P235473

LV4310E239189

LV4410P245202

LV4410E249284

I've noticed some disagreeable noise from the driveline when the tractor is cold/low RPM/ and moving slowly. I've assumed it's all normal, and once I run it for a few minutes the driveline gets quieter.

How is it when it gets warm outside, say 105?
